Salem Academy and College invites applications for Director of Institutional Research position.  The Director of Institutional Research supervises all institutional research activities across the Academy and College, which provides information to support institutional planning, policy formulation, and decision making.  The Director manages data collection, data analysis, and research activities relative to institutional effectiveness.  The Director also leads the compilation of data and manages the submission of required state and federal reports. The Director of Institutional Research reports to the Vice President for Academic and Student Affairs, Dean of the College, in collaboration with the Academy Head of School.

Essential Duties and Responsibilities:

 

  • Provides information of a general nature about the Academy and College and its environment through the publication of a variety of documents.
  • Ensures that all state and federal reports are submitted in a timely fashion by establishing and maintaining a reports management system.
  • Provides data to appropriate administrative units regarding faculty activities by conducting extensive surveys of faculty, compiling data, and reporting the results.
  • Provides senior administration with appropriate information about faculty productivity and salary comparisons by participating in national studies such as those organized by the Academy, College and University Professional Association for Human Resources (CUPA-HR).
  • Responds to ad hoc issues concerning the Academy and College by researching the issues and providing appropriate responses.
  • Ensures that internal and external requests for support in completing surveys/questionnaires are completed in a timely manner by managing a suspense system of critical dates relative to the surveys/questionnaires.
  • Facilitates a work environment that encourages knowledge of, respect for, and development of skills to engage with those of other cultures or backgrounds.
  • Remains competent and current through self-directed professional reading, developing professional contacts with colleagues, and attending professional development courses.

Required Qualifications:

  • Bachelor's degree, including college-level course work in statistics, from an accredited institution. Degree must be from a regionally accredited college or university. 
  • 2-4 years of related experience; Experience related to Institutional Effectiveness activities in higher education 
  • Ability to develop, write and present research studies, surveys and reports. 
  • Ability to present and explain difficult, complicated concepts both verbally and in written form. 
  • Strong skills in software applications; downloading data from large databases and manipulating data; and Microsoft office software and computer tools e.g. SPSS and SASS. 
  • In-depth knowledge of statistical analysis. 
  • Interpersonal skills and the ability to consult and relate with all levels of the institution. 
  • Ability to work effectively as a member of cross-departmental and multi-purpose teams and committees. 
  • Strong problem-solving, analytical skills. 
  • Ability to work under tight deadlines and to prioritize and organize tasks. 
  • A demonstrable understanding and acceptance of the mission, vision, goals and strategic priorities of the institution. 
  • The ability to perform assigned duties in a manner consistent with applicable laws, regulations and goals of the institution. 
  • Experience in a higher education setting.

Preferred Qualifications

  • Master's degree, or higher, including college-level course work in statistics, from an accredited institution. Degree must be from a regionally accredited college or university. 
  • 5 or more years of related experience in program evaluation and/or institutional effectiveness-related activities. 
  • Hands on experience with Data Visualization and Business Intelligence Tools
  • Demonstrable experience in data analysis and report writing.
