The Department of Poultry Science in the College of Agriculture at Auburn University is seeking applications for the position of Assistant or Associate Professor in Poultry Nutrition. This faculty position will be a nine-months, tenure track at the rank of Assistant Professor with 70% research and 30% teaching appointment. The projected start date is August, 2022.

Responsibilities: The successful candidate will be responsible for developing and maintain a nationally and internationally recognized, extramurally (government and industry) funded research program in one or more areas of poultry nutrition. The ideal candidate will complement existing programs in broiler nutrition, feed processing, growth biology, gastrointestinal development and health. The successful candidate will be expected to actively seek extramural funding to support his/her research programs from sources such as federal sponsors, industry, and commodity groups across the country. In addition, departmental, college, and university committee service will be expected.

The candidate is also expected to actively engage in scholarly activity related to instruction, including, but not limited to teaching courses, participating in curriculum revision and enhancement and mentoring graduates and undergraduate students. The candidate will be the instructor of record for the undergraduate/graduate-level course POUL 5050/6050 poultry feeding. In addition, the successful candidate will teach two graduate courses in poultry nutrition every other year or one undergraduate course each year and one graduate nutrition course every other year. The candidate will participate in graduate (and undergraduate) education by mentoring graduate and undergraduate students, serving on graduate committees, supervising thesis and dissertation research, and publishing research results with their students in reputable, peer-reviewed journals.

Minimum Qualifications

Minimum qualifications include an earned Ph.D. in nutrition from an accredited institution in poultry science, animal science or closely related disciplines by the expected position start date.

The successful candidate must possess excellent written and interpersonal skills coupled with the ability to effectively interact with diverse audiences, deliver educational materials, mentor graduate and undergraduate students, and demonstrated or potential ability to secure extramural research and/or teaching funding commensurate with the candidate’s experience. The candidate must meet eligibility requirements for work in the United States at the time the appointment is scheduled to begin and continue working legally for the term of employment.

Desired Qualifications

Documented evidence of individual and/or collaborative research and teaching efforts in poultry nutrition resulting in extramural grants, peer-reviewed research, popular press articles, and oral presentations at scientific meetings and extension events is preferred.

Candidates at the rank of Assistant Professor are strongly encouraged, but those with an established reputation as a leader in poultry nutrition areas will also be considered at the rank of Associate Professor. Examples of documented evidence of established reputation may include, but not limited to, evidence of ability to sustain externally sponsored funding to support research and teaching programs as well as consistent records of publications in high impact peer-reviewed journals.
