The Director of Undergraduate Admissions is responsible for direct supervision of the admissions recruitment staff and all recruitment activities and events. This includes but is not limited to territory management, recruitment travel and assessment, travel planning and relationship development with high schools and guidance counselors. The position also oversees all aspects of the campus visit experience including managing tours, on campus traffic such as interviews and information sessions and all events large and small such as open houses, guidance receptions, yield activities, etc.

The Director also oversees many special projects and populations. He/she is responsible for ensuring that effective strategies are carried out to ensure that undergraduate enrollment goals are met.

The individual is also responsible for close coordination with many campus partners. The individual should also be strategic and innovative, knowledgeable about trends, demographics and evolving technology to strategically and continually reinvest in our tactics and goals.

Duties and Responsibilities:

  • This individual’s primary role is in supervising, hiring, training, scheduling, assigning tasks and ensuring effective outcomes and work results for direct reports. The individual must provide day to day management, oversight, guidance, and support to the recruitment staff members. This includes providing clear goals, strategic direction, and measurable outcomes. This individual is responsible for assign and distributing tasks and workload for recruitment and admission activities. Monitor performance and assigned tasks, provide feedback and assessment to further develop staff and maintain established goals and standards. This includes providing annual performance reviews and training and professional development as needed to ensure success of the recruitment team. This individual is also responsible for ensuring a team-oriented, positive, productive, customer focused culture with high levels of service. This individual must also ensure compliance with professional standards and keep abreast of NACAC and other industry trends and compliance issues. This individual is also responsible for managing expenses and budgets for the recruitment activities.
  • Manage external recruitment activities. Oversee all off-campus recruitment efforts and events of the admissions staff, including the regional recruiters and transfer recruitment activities, including:
    • Research and data analytics about industry trends, geographic markets, demographics and regional shifts, internal applicant and feeder school data.
    • Managing recruitment territories and travel schedules (including fairs, high school visits, instant decision days, etc.) to ensure optimal efficiency and strategic approach to meeting our goals in line with objectives and set by the VP.
      Set priorities and supervise individual staff members travel/recruitment plans to ensure effective use of time, development of relations with key feeder schools and markets and effective balance of outreach efforts to meet enrollment objectives.
      Manage master travel schedule and bookings for school visits and fairs, manage conflict coverage
    • Build and develop rapport with guidance counselor community and independent counselor community and ensure that recruitment staff is effective at doing the same.
    • Represent SHU at external functions and at professional organizations.
    • Oversee any off-campus events such as area receptions, send-offs, guidance events, etc.
    • Leverage alumni, parent, priest and current student communities to assisting with recruitment activities and relationship building in the community. Specifically high schools and youth groups.
    • Provide through analysis and assessment of recruitment markets and year end efforts and continually retool and revise strategic approach to remain relevant and take advantage of technological resources.
    • This includes leveraging technology and tools, such as Slate for effective management, data collection and analysis.


The Director will also be required to take on some direct recruitment activities and/or territories as needed but especially, covering conflict fairs and high school visits, filling in when we are short staffed and representing the University at high school panels and presentations as needed to cover content about admissions as well as financial aid. This may involve work in the evenings and/or weekends and may include travel locally as well as out of state, possibly for extended time periods.

  • Manage all internal recruitment activities and events for incoming freshman and transfers. This involves all on-campus and web-based recruitment activities such as oversight, training, and strategic management of campus tours (including tour guides), information sessions, interviews, walk-in traffic, visit days, group tours, etc.. It also means ensuring effective and customer-focused management of all incoming mail, e-mails, phone calls, voicemails, chat bot activities, social media activities, etc. This individual is also responsible organizing and effectively managing all on campus admissions related events large and small, such as Open
  • House, Academic events, Yield events, guidance receptions, inquiry events, webinars, instant decision days, transfer days, orientation activities, etc.
  • Internal recruitment activities also include proactive outreach to prospective student at all stages of the recruitment funnel from inquiry or application generation activities to yield and melt activities. This includes supporting calling campaigns, personal outreach and appointments, text campaigns, application comments, targeted outreach to highly engaged students, etc. This involves assuring staff and student workers understand and complete assigned outreach initiatives.
  • The Director is also expected to attend all major events, often serving as a primary speaker or presenter and may need to cover information sessions or front-line customer service task. This will involve many evenings and weekends.
  • Manage Special projects and special populations. Assign, train and manage team about special populations or special project assignments. This includes close coordination with multiple departments on campus in areas of overlap such as ROTC, EOP, Honors, Leadership, Rise, Center for Academic Success, Housing, Athletics, OIP, Student affairs, Financial Aid, Registrar, Bursar, etc.
  • Serve as major liaison to academic units across campus for training, staff development, events, and outreach.
    Work closely with student affairs on orientation programing.
  • Supporting the AVP of Operations with any aspects of application processing or file review as requested and the AVP of
  • Communications with any communication or marketing efforts as requested.
  • Serve as a member of the admissions leadership management team and the Enrollment Services management team.
  • Attend to all other duties as assigned.

Required Qualifications:

  • Bachelor’s degree
  • 5-8 years of experience; specifically in the field of admissions, with progressively responsible positions and significant management experience.
  • Strong communication skills

Desired Qualifications:

  • Master’s degree
  • Extensive experience in admissions, recruitment, outreach, planning, and event planning. In addition, significant skill in management & staff supervision is essential.
  • Analyze data, trends, demographics, outcomes, assess territory strength, monitor performance, asses strategy effectiveness.
  • Organized, detail oriented, thorough, works and communicates effectively and completes projects on time. Ability to multi-task.
  • Strong background with effective team management, building string culture, training, supervision, performance reviews and employee improvement plans
  • Experience in Student Information Systems, preferably Banner. Experience in Microsoft Office. Experience with Slate. Proven ability to leverage technology and aptitude for software tools
  • Strong communication skills, especially at networking, building rapport and communicating with large groups. Expected to public speak in front of large audiences

Licenses and Certificates:

  • Driver’s license and personal car is required for the position. Late nights, weekends and travel are also expected of this position.
