POSITION TITLE: Assistant Professor of Creative Writing

DEPARTMENT SUMMARY:

The English department is a community of teachers, scholars, writers, and support staff whose primary mission is to promote learning in composition, creative writing, English education, linguistics, literature, and the teaching of English as a second language.

POSITION DETAILS:

Assistant Professor in Creative Writing: Fiction, Memoir, and Creative Non-Fiction (MFA or PhD) with preferred additional area of interest in one of the following areas of literary and cultural studies: Asian-American, Native American, Latinx/Chicanx, African-American, Queer, Disability, and/or Diasporic Literature. Normal teaching load is three courses per semester.

JOB DUTIES:

The successful candidate will engage in service to the institution and the community, have an active agenda of creative work and scholarship, work well with fellow faculty in various disciplines in shaping the direction of the Department and University, participate in student advising, and teach a variety of courses, which may include graduate courses in our MA program, upper-division undergraduate classes, lower division general education courses, and composition courses in our writing program.

REQUIRED QUALIFICATIONS:

  • MFA or Ph.D. ABD candidates will be considered. If, ABD, candidates will be required to complete the doctoral degree by August 2022.
  • Record of achievement in fiction and prose.
  • Ability to teach creative writing at the undergraduate and graduate level.
  • Demonstrated potential to become a strong teacher of creative writing.
  • Demonstrated ability to interact and work with students, staff, and colleagues in a diverse academic community.

    PREFERRED QUALIFICATIONS:

  • Ability to teach in one or more of the following areas of literary and cultural studies: Asian-American, Native American, Latinx/Chicanx, African-American, Queer, Disability, and/or Diasporic Literature
