Position Summary

Assists the Department Chair in handling the budget so that expenditures do not exceed the funds available. Uses the computer to create class schedules, ensuring that adequate course sections are offered at appropriate times and in appropriate locations. Helps students to register for these courses or redirects students to student advising services. Processes curricular changes and makes sure that students are aware of the changes. Performs Human Resources and Payroll duties to ensure that instructional faculty, teaching assistants, and graders are paid appropriately. Provides general administrative support and coordinates department office operations.

FLSA: Non-exempt

CSU Classification Salary Range: $3,352 - $5,639 per month

Hiring Range: $3,352.00 - $5,639.00 per month

Department Information

The College of Engineering and Computer Science (ECS) is dedicated to providing high quality education that will transform students into professionals capable of contributing to the advancement of technological knowledge, progress, well-being and sustainable growth of our Capital region and the State of California. The mission of the College of Engineering and Computer Science is to focused heavily on producing career-ready engineering, computer science and construction management professionals who possess the critical thinking skills, creativity, communication skills and the problem solving abilities necessary to make an immediate and lasting contribution to their profession. The Computer Science Department (CSC) is part of the College of Engineering and Computer Science. The BS program in Computer Science is ABET/CAC accredited. The department also offers an MS program in Computer Science and an MS program in Software Engineering. The Computer Science Department and the Electrical & Electronic Engineering Department (EEE) co-sponsor BS and MS degrees in Computer Engineering.

Minimum Qualifications

Entry to this classification requires a fully functional knowledge of and skill in standard office procedures and practices, as well as an ability to understand and operate in a variety of organizational structures. Additionally, incumbents are expected to have a thorough knowledge of English grammar, spelling, and punctuation and be able to clearly communicate orally and in writing. Some positions may require knowledge of business mathematics beyond basis arithmetic. The ability to use and quickly learn new office support technology systems and software packages is also a prerequisite. These entry qualifications would normally be obtained through a high school program, technical/vocational program, or their equivalents combined with several years of related office work experience.

Required Qualifications
1. Ability to operate a personal computer, scanner, printer, photocopier, and a multi-line telephone.
2. Familiarity with word processing, spreadsheets, email, and web applications.
3. Ability to perform business math, analyze budgetary data, and make accurate cost projections.
4. Ability to interact positively with students, faculty, and other staff members of the organization to accomplish department goals.
5. Ability to handle interpersonal interactions at all levels, including highly sensitive situations, in a culturally diverse environment.
6. Ability to work independently under general direction.

Preferred Qualifications
7. Experience with the following software: Microsoft Word, Excel, Outlook, as well as campus platforms, available through MySacState for example, including CMS, Cognos (SacVault), OnBase, the University Foundation online financial reporting system, ASTRA online class scheduling, and WCM webpage maintenance.
8. Mastery of English grammar, punctuation, and spelling.
9. Experience to include entering and modifying complicated class schedules with CMS and ASTRA software, processing registration requests for students, and student contact in general.
