Basic Function:
The Sports Information Specialist at Santa Barbara City College will coordinate all aspects of public relations and sports information in collaboration and under the supervision of the Director of Athletics. The top priority of the Sports Information Specialist will be submitting and tracking all Stat Crew files and related requirements to keep in compliance with CCCAA guidelines. In addition, the Sports Information Specialist will maintain the Official Athletics Website with accurate scores, schedules, rosters and releases. He or she will also coordinate with the SBCC Office of Communications when appropriate.

Distinguishing Characteristics:
ESSENTIAL DUTIES: 1. Maintains rosters, schedules and statistics with current results and game times, in print and online. 2. Assists with maintaining college athletic website with updated information and releases. 3. Assists with the coordination of information released to the media/general public. 4. Assists with the coordination of the compilation of game and season statistics. 5. Compiles data and information for publications, flyers, etc. 6. Responds to general media questions. 7. Attends athletic events, department, and state wide meetings as needed. 8. Assist with event set up for sports media or sports information booths. 9. Performs other related duties as assigned.

Education & Paid Experience:
Education and Experience: Bachelor’s degree from an accredited college or university with a major in Public Relations, Journalism, English, Communications, or a related field OR Three years of experience in sports information, journalism, marketing, public relations, fund raising or related field.

Preferred Qualifications:
Knowledge of journalistic writing, including Associated Press style, and reporting techniques and standards.

Proper English usage, spelling, grammar and punctuation

Principles and procedures of record keeping

General sports rules and regulations

California Community College Athletic Association/National Collegiate Athletic Association (CCCAA/NCAA) statistical formats and requirements

Modern office procedures, methods and equipment

Microsoft Office Professional Suite (Word, Excel, PowerPoint, Access), Adobe Illustrator, Adobe Photoshop, Adobe Dreamweaver, Presto Website Coding, Omni Update, Stat Crew and/or other statistical software

Latest photographic trends and technology

Facebook, Twitter, Instagram and other social media websites

Ability to maintain an athletic website with current and accurate information

Ability to clearly and concisely communicate, both written and orally

Demonstrated ability to run a press box, including credentialing, providing results, etc.

Demonstrated sensitivity to, and understanding of, the diverse academic, socioeconomic, cultural and ethnic backgrounds of staff and students, along with staff and students with physical and learning disabilities

Ability to use a tablet or smart phone for low grade picture taking



Special Licenses:
Valid California driver’s license. Valid First Aid and CPR card issued by an authorized agency. Obtain Class B Driver’s License upon hiring
