Position: Assistant Professor of Social Work, Higher Ed. Counseling

Starting Date: August 2022

Minimum Qualifications:
1) An earned Ph.D. or Doctorate in Social Work or other closely related fields from an accredited institution (or equivalent) is required; however, applicants nearing completion of the doctorate (ABD) may be considered. For appointment, the doctorate must be completed by the date of appointment (8/18/2022). 
2) An earned Master of Social Work (MSW) degree from a CSWE-accredited university.
3) At least two (2) years of post-MSW social work practice experience.
4) Evidence of teaching experience at the university level.
5) Evidence of active research and scholarly activity. 

Preferred Qualifications:
1) Evidence of successful teaching experience at the graduate level. 
2) Social work practice experiences with college students of diverse backgrounds, especially first-generation college students and/or racial and ethnic minorities.
3) Clinical practice background, especially, in counseling centers in higher education. 
4) Active clinical license (e.g., LCSW). 
5) Expertise in program evaluation and or translational research.

Duties:
The primary professional responsibilities of instructional faculty members are: teaching, research, scholarship and/or creative activity, and service to the University, profession and to the community. These responsibilities generally include: advising students, participation in campus and system-wide committees, maintaining office hours, working collaboratively and productively with colleagues, and participation in traditional academic functions.

Ideally, candidates will have demonstrated expertise and experiences in program evaluation and direct clinical practice. We are particularly seeking candidates who have research and service interests in counseling/psychological services in higher education and minority communities. The successful candidates will engage in the School and University collaborative efforts to enhance Counseling & Psychological Services (CAPS) at Cal State LA. The Department:
Located in one of the most vibrant and diverse cities in the U.S., Cal State LA School of Social Work is committed in educating our students to become urban generalist social workers who will promote social and economic justice and are able to facilitate change and growth at all levels of practice. Our BASW and MSW programs are accredited by the Council on Social Work Education. The BASW degree is designed to be completed in two years of upper division course work. Courses are offered during the day and in the evening. The Master of Social Work program is an Advanced Generalist practice program that prepares professional social workers to work with diverse populations and settings. We offer a 1-year Advanced Standing Program (ASP); a 2-year full-time program and a 3-year program. In the 3-year program, courses are offered in the evening and Saturdays.
