Assistant Professor of Speech-Language Pathology

Position: Assistant Professor of Speech-Language Pathology with an emphasis in one or more of the following areas: Voice Disorders; Alternative/Augmentative Communication; Geriatrics; Fluency Disorders; or Clinical Education and Counseling

Starting Date: August, 2022

Minimum Qualifications:
1) Evidence of teaching, clinical and/or research experience in one or more of the following areas: Voice Disorders, Alternative/Augmentative Communication, Geriatrics, Fluency Disorders and/or Clinical Education and Counseling.
2) An earned doctorate (Ph.D.) in Speech-Language Pathology or other closely-related discipline from an accredited institution (or equivalent) is required; however, applicants nearing completion of the doctorate (ABD) may be considered. For appointment, the doctorate must be completed by the date of appointment (8/18/2022). 
3) Evidence of national certification in speech-language pathology (CCC-SLP) or working toward national certification. 
4) Evidence of eligibility to obtain or possession of California licensure in speech-language pathology. 
5) Evidence of scholarly achievement (for example, academic or professional presentations, publications in refereed journals, publication of textbooks) in Communication Sciences and Disorders or closely related area; and 
6) Ability to demonstrate a commitment to working effectively with faculty, staff, and students in a multicultural/multiethnic urban campus environment with a substantial population of first-generation students. 

Preferred Qualifications:
1) Evidence of successful and independent teaching experience at the undergraduate and/or graduate level utilizing a face-to-face classroom format and/or on-line teaching format.
2) Expertise in the use of platforms for instructional technology.
3) Possession of ASHA Certificate of Clinical Competence
4) Possession of other related professional certifications.

Duties:
The primary professional responsibilities of instructional faculty members are: teaching, research, scholarship and/or creative activity, and service to the University, profession and to the community. These responsibilities generally include: advising students, participation in campus and system-wide committees, maintaining office hours, working collaboratively and productively with colleagues, and participation in traditional academic functions.

The successful candidate will be expected to teach undergraduate and graduate courses in areas of expertise and other courses in the department in consultation with the Department Chair. The successful candidate will be expected to participate in clinical education and supervision in the on-campus Robert L. Douglass Speech-Language Clinic.

Salary: Initial salary is commensurate with qualifications and experience.

Rongxiang Xu College of Health and Human Services is committed to educating and preparing human service professionals to become innovative practitioners and leaders and is committed to the needs of the students while being a service to the community. The Xu College includes the following academic schools and departments: Department of Child and Family Studies, Department of Communication Disorders, Department of Public Health, School of Criminal Justice and Criminalistics, School of Kinesiology and Nutritional Science, Patricia A. The Department:
The Department of Communication Disorders is located in the Rongxiang Xu College of Health and Human Services and offers programs leading to the B.A. and M.A. degrees in Communication Disorders, and an AuD in audiology. The M.A. degree program in Speech-Language Pathology is accredited by the Council on Academic Accreditation in Audiology and Speech-Language Pathology. Admission to the M.A. program is highly competitive. The three-year first-time pass rate for the PRAXIS exam in Speech-Language Pathology is 98%. On-site Audiology, Speech, and Language Labs are located in the department as well as a Speech-Language Clinic, and access to a large variety of off-campus training sites. In addition, the AuD Program and Hearing and Balance Clinic are located off-campus in the adjacent city of Alhambra, CA.
