 The Chief Marketing and Communications Officer (CMO) is responsible for overseeing the planning, development and execution of the University's marketing and advertising initiatives. The CMO ensures that the University’s messages are distributed across internal and external channels and to targeted audiences in order to meet the University's objectives. Manage three functional areas: public relations and web communications, recruitment marketing and communications, and creative and marketing services. Oversee all internal and external communication functions as well as a team of professionals that develop strategies and tactics to promote and protect the University’s brand and reputation; consult the President and senior staff on communications matters; and represent the University in the press, including managing media inquiries.



  • Minimum of 10 or more years of experience working in marketing and/or public relations
  • Demonstrated expertise in strategic communication for internal and external audiences and constituencies
  • Master's degree in Business Marketing, Marketing and Communication, Journalism, Public Relations, and/or related field
  • Experience with traditional and digital communications strategies and planning with an emphasis on internal communications and external public relations
  • Experience with marketing research
  • Experience with brand management and development of effective strategic marketing plans
  • Exceptional written and verbal communication skills, with an emphasis on professional/technical writing skills and experience
  • Strong organizational and analytical skills
  • Availability to attend University-related evening and weekend events/meetings



  • Experience with marketing and/or public relations in institutions of higher education and/or non-profit organizations
  • Experience using Customer Relationship Management (CRM) systems for business and/or educational marketing
  • Experience using digital marketing tools (e.g., Google Adwords) and analytics (i.e., Net Promoter Score)
  • Knowledge of Search Engine Optimization (SEO)



 Position reports to the President and serves on the Cabinet.  The Executive Assistant to the President assists with processing budget, travel, and purchasing responsibility.  Position supervises the Director of Strategic Communications and the Creative Director.


  • Develops and implements action plans to meet the University's marketing and communication needs
  • Plans and oversees the design and production of all marketing, public relations and advertising products of the University
  • Oversees University communications, editorial services, and web strategies
  • Leads and directs marketing, communications and public relations staff, and coordinates with all University departments
  • Interfaces with academic colleges to understand and promote academic programs
  • Develops and executes a comprehensive, long-term and proactive University-wide communications, as well as marketing and branding strategies consistent with the strategic goals and plans of the
  • Chief Marketing and Communications Officer oversees and is responsible for a department of marketing and communications professionals
  • Performs other duties as assigned.

Salary and Benefits:

 Salary is commensurate with qualifications and experience. Comprehensive benefits package, including health, dental and vision benefits, sick and vacation days, and participation in the State Universities Retirement System. This is a full-time, continuing position.
