The Medical Laboratory Sciences (MLS) Program in the Department of Health Sciences at the UT Health San Antonio invites qualified MLS-trained candidates to apply for a full-time (12-month schedule) faculty position, non-tenure track. Applicants will be considered for the faculty title of Instructor or Assistant Professor based on qualifications. This position is focused on components of MLS education.  Primary responsibilities include:

  • Develop, prepare and deliver course content for upper-division Bachelor’s and Master’s Degree courses in the undergraduate and graduate laboratory courses of Medical Laboratory Sciences.
  • Teach and evaluate students in the classroom and laboratory settings.
  • Prepare laboratory sessions including samples and laboratory instrumentation in all Medical Laboratory Sciences disciplines.
  • Manage the Program’s student laboratories to include inventory and purchase of laboratory equipment, reagents, and supplies; maintenance and preparation of laboratory equipment for student laboratory sessions; serve as Program's safety officer and maintain student laboratory safety records.
  • Incorporates new knowledge and techniques in laboratory teaching.
  • Participate in other core missions of UT Health San Antonio.
  • Participate in curriculum and program development, implementation, evaluation, and revision.

 Qualified candidates must have:

  • Bachelor of Science degree required; Master of Science degree preferred.
  • Professional U.S. certification (ASCP) as a Medical Laboratory Technician/MLT; Medical
    Laboratory Scientist/MLS preferred.
  • Two years of experience as a MLT or MLS

Preference will be given to applicants who possess a Master’s degree in an MLS-appropriate discipline and experience in an academic-based NAACLS-accredited Medical Laboratory Sciences education program. Salary is commensurate with education and experience.

The Medical Laboratory Sciences Program is a NAACLS-accredited medical laboratory sciences program which awards both a BS and an MS in MLS degree.  The Department of Health Sciences is one of six departments in the School of Health Professions. In addition to the School of Health Professions, the UT Health San Antonio also has a Medical School, Dental School, Nursing School, and a Graduate School of Biomedical Sciences. The University’s purpose is to provide the best in health professions education, biomedical research, and patient care to San Antonio and the South Texas/Border Region.  The campus is located in the South Texas Medical Center which encompasses four of the major hospital systems in San Antonio.  The UT Health San Antonio is a constituent of the University of Texas System.  San Antonio is the center of a vibrant educational, medical, economic and cultural community.
