Position Summary:
Job Summary Responsible for the general repair and maintenance of electrically powered systems and equipment, including electrical distribution systems, kitchen equipment, fire detection, emergency, and security systems for all campus buildings. Specific Responsibilities
- Repair and replace indoor and outdoor lighting, receptacle circuits and devices, air handling equipment, cooking equipment and appliances, fans, motors, blowers, controllers, contactors, electric utility carts, transformers, and electrical equipment.
- Pull cabling for communication, sound, security, and fire equipment.
- Maintain high voltage wiring and associated equipment, install conduit and wiring indoors and outdoors, fabricate forms to pour cement for outdoor light standards.
- Install new lighting fixtures in offices and various campus buildings.
- Perform periodic inspection of motors, switchboards, circuits, and other equipment as a matter of preventive maintenance.
- Maintain and exercise emergency generators.
- Test and maintain fire alarm and emergency light systems on an assigned schedule.
- Safeguard utility services and facilities at various times while on duty and promptly report any unusual circumstances to the supervisor or supervisor.
- Understand and use operation manuals, blueprints, and work orders.
- Contributes to the overall success of facilities management and the university by performing other duties and responsibilities as needed.
- Inspect all campus buildings on a routine basis and assure that deficiencies are corrected.
- Assist as required and/or directed with snow plowing, snow, and ice removal during inclement weather.
- Needs to remain accessible and available in the event of
emergencies or when needed to meet the ongoing mission of the
University.
- Contributes to the overall success of facilities management and
the university by performing other duties and responsibilities as
needed.
- Maintain a safe, healthy, and environmentally sound workplace
demonstrated by following good housekeeping practices, notifying
supervisors of potential hazards, adhering to OSHA standards and
other safe practice procedures, and being an example for other
staff regarding safe equipment use.
Required Qualifications:
Knowledge, Skills, Abilities· Plan, schedule work to ensure services and repairs are completed in a timely fashion.· Read and interpret drawings, blueprints, electrical schematics, and work orders. · Monitor jobs in progress to assure work is performed correctly and efficiently.· Order parts and material for jobs; work with central receiving to maintain accurate and efficient inventory of supplies.· Knowledge of regulatory codes and requirements such as national electric code. · Maintain and submit reports of all hours worked and materials utilized in performing electrical functions, work orders, generator testing and fire alarm testing.· Ensure all safety rules are understood and followed. EducationHigh school diploma or GED, Trade or technical school diploma or degree in the related field. ExperienceThree years’ experience in building maintenance of a similar facility or One year of trade school experience which fulfills the requirements of the university.
Additional Requirements
This position requires a valid driver’s license, and the ability to drive and qualify under the university’s insurance carrier when driving a university and/or leased vehicle.
Physical Demand
Frequently uses various machinery as well as hand and power tools associated with the electrical trade, and working at heights from ladders, and high lift equipment. Will frequently lift heavy weights, work in all weather conditions, and on occasion, work in electrical utility access holes, and other confined spaces.
