Job Responsibilities:

The Citadel, The Military College of South Carolina is seeking a Veteran’s Service Coordinator in the Veteran Student Success Center. This position is under the supervision of the Program Manager for Veteran Student Success Center. This position is responsible for the following:

  • Serves as adviser and advocate to veterans, active duty, and their family members who are students.
  • Ensures the accurate and timely reporting of enrollment and graduation information to the U.S. Department of Veterans Affairs using VA Once to ensure compliance with state and federal regulations.
  • Serves as secondary School Certifying Official (SCO). Represents The Citadel in all state and federal audits related to veterans’ educational benefits.
  • Processes certification to the Dept. of Veterans Affairs. Assists veterans and military-connected students in resolving problems, issues or concerns regarding policies and procedures, financial aid, and/or billing issues.
  • Counsels veterans on available services and resources; Coordinates student services programs with Financial Aid, Admissions, Registrar and other College offices.
  • Provides detailed information to new and current students regarding registration and VA payments; maintain an expert level of knowledge of veteran related regulations and annually reviews academic catalogs for accuracy of rules related to the veteran/active duty populations.
  • Coordinate monthly and yearly events as well as assists with Veteran clubs and organizations; coordinate with CGC for new Veteran/Active Duty student orientations; conduct Green Zone training to faculty and staff.


Minimum Qualifications:

A bachelor's degree and progressive experience related to advising, and working with military connected students. Knowledge of program or project planning and implementation. Ability to work with a diverse population with a wide variety of needs, especially with Veterans and Active Duty. Ability to communicate with students and student accounts, financial aid, and academic departments. Commitment to veteran student development and success.

Preferred Qualifications:

Experience with student affairs and VA educational benefits is a plus. A current Veteran is a plus. Knowledge of GI Bill requirements and US Department of VA Education Benefits desirable. Strong interpersonal and presentation skills. A working knowledge of BANNER is desired but not required.
