Buy, analyze, predict, and plan inventory levels with General Division Manager.
Create buying strategies with respect to profit goals/objectives; department budget; direct department workflow for general merchandise (apparel); conduct analyses of general merchandise and review industry trends for future purchases; use and maintain inventory management and NetSuite Point of Sale ( POS ) system and ensure accuracy of system data; determine selling price of goods sold within established policies regarding profit goals and objectives.

In collaboration with Division Manager, establish short and long-term goals developing effective acquisition strategies to ensure the optimal mix of apparel for the Dome and Schine locations.
Builds business through effective buying practices and creating/maintaining client and vendor relationships.

Participate in planning and executing special events/promotions. Build a loyal clientele through follow-up contacts and creating/maintaining client and vendor relationships.
Create a positive shopping experience through excellent customer service for the Syracuse student body, alumni, fans, and community members.

The position works with the Department Sales Associates and splits time as needed on the retail sales floor merchandising desirable product placement and presentation. Qualifications
Bachelor’s degree, experience in basic retail accounting and vendor negotiation; thorough knowledge of retail sales operations, practices, and procedures in a college environment; proven experience with POS and inventory systems; and entrepreneurial initiative; all preferred.
Experience in merchandise buying required. Job Specific Qualifications
Strong selling, planning and communication skills are necessary.
Experience as a retail buyer, planner, merchandiser is required.
Must have strong customer service skills and be able to handle a fast-paced work environment. Basic principles and practices of purchasing, sales, mathematics, accounting, and inventory control. Experience with retail POS system required NetSuite POS experience preferred. Responsibilities
  • Buy and plan with budgetary implications and expectations in season and stylish apparel for Syracuse University students alumni and fans.
  • Develop relationships with vendors and wholesalers like Nike, Champion, 47, etc.
  • Take advantage of special buying opportunities; negotiate favorable terms on merchandise, clearance items, and with local vendors.
  • Determine retail, price to ensure that proper margins are maintained; evaluate department pricing structure in relation to MSRP and national competitive market prices; maintain and increase market share through purchasing and pricing decisions.
  • Ensure items are accurately received and priced.
  • Arrange timely delivery of merchandise in quantities adequate to fill the needs of the University community; place reorders in a timely manner; procure items for special events and quick turnaround occurrences.
  • Creates/executes action plans based on annual marketing calendar, store sales and store budget. Keeps abreast of current fashion and customer purchasing trends and select merchandise using that knowledge.
  • Oversee the buying of merchandise for the Dome Shop.
  • Ensure that adequate quantities are available in appropriate locations; oversee continuous upkeep of merchandise on sales floor; shelve and catalog overstock; maintain excellent housekeeping records in the store POS system (NetSuite).
  • Implement effective inventory management practices; evaluate inventory at regular intervals and take action to avoid write-offs; monitor stock to prevent out-of-stock situations; keep track of, evaluate, and use vendors’ standard and special services and terms.
  • Oversee the receiving of product to the sales floor, pricing, and shelving of merchandise when necessary.
  • Assist in the implementation of targeted displays, promotions, advertisements, and merchandise presentations throughout the store to meet bookstore standards.
  • Supervise Market Buyer and Office Coordinator in the daily operation of the Campus Store Market.
  • Supervise retail collegiate floor staff as needed.
  • Recruits and screens potential employees when vacancies arise.
  • Manages the orientation and development of student employees as necessary.
  • Creates student training and consultation workshops to create a knowledgeable group of sales floor employees.
  • Manage, motivate, and evaluate fulltime, student, and temporary staff.
  • Creates and executes development plan with supervisor for effective sales program and staff utilization.
  • Work with collegiate staff answering customer’s queries or complaints and advising customers on product, while providing an interactive guest experience through the utilization of suggestive sales techniques and product demonstrations in a positive and outgoing manner.
  • Meets and exceeds customer expectations for service; resolves problems using department guidelines.
  • Maintains expertly organized and well-merchandised shelves and racks in assigned buying area specialties; reorganize and resize sections as needed; Maintain thorough knowledge of assigned products.
  • Interact and maintain good communication with co-workers and other Campus store departments.
