Job Summary

Medical Services at the University of Colorado Boulder encourages applications for an Assistant Director of Nursing and Infection Prevention. This is a leadership role with clinical oversight and supervision of the Medical Services nursing team and operations, including nursing specialty clinics/areas: Triage, Public Health Clinic, Travel, Allergy, and Infection Prevention and MS Employee Health.

This role reports to the Senior Director of Medical Services (MS) and works in a team-oriented environment with other clinical directors, the leadership team in MS and staff within Health and Wellness Services. The Director collaborates closely with the Administrative Services (AS) directors and staff, and the Health Promotion directors and staff to serve our patient population’s medical needs.

What Your Key Responsibilities Will Be

Leadership and Administration

  • Provide clinical leadership for MS nursing team, including advancing a progressive vision to provide forward-thinking and proactive leadership that supports the advancement of quality nursing care, an excellent patient experience and the development of a high-functioning nursing team. Provide guidance for the nursing team to ensure adherence to department policies, procedures, guidelines and efficiency standards.
  • Strategically plan and implement new and enhanced ideas, services and programs that align with the University, Division and MS priorities, specifically around medical and clinical student services. Provide clinical oversight and collaboration to assure compliance with clinical accreditation standards.
  • Develop inventive clinical leadership and direction for the team which fosters continued support of the MS clinical team and student-centered health.
  • Coordinate staff development of the nursing team by promoting and ensuring participation in supervisory leadership training opportunities, career development and collective leadership. Provide supervision and mentorship, cultivating an innovative and collaborative team.
  • Oversee development of nursing staffing and scheduling. Ensure appropriate staffing including for peak patient periods (e.g., flu season), staff absences or administrative education commitments. Review, respond, and work to resolve patient complaints.
  • Collaborates with all MS directors and staff, Administrative Services (AS) directors and staff, Health Promotion and Public Health Office directors and staff and the Manager of Behavioral Health (BH) to support the integration of all members of the team into a cohesive outpatient service-focused unit.
  • Complete regular evaluation of, and timely reports on, utilization, nursing services and operational data to the Sr. Director of MS. Provide leadership for QI initiatives for nursing services.


Clinical Service and Collaboration

  • Provide direct nursing care, within RN license and scope, including the treatment room, primary care needs, triage/urgent care needs, specialty clinics, infection prevention, and immunizations.


What You Should Know

This position will be required to work on campus and will have a work schedule of Monday through Friday, 8:00 am - 5:00 pm.

What We Can Offer

The salary range for this position is $87,000 - $115,000 annually. Onboarding Assistance is available within Student Affairs division guidelines.

What We Require
  • Master’s degree or higher degree in Nursing or comparable field. An equivalent combination of education and experience may substitute for the degree on a year for year basis.
  • Registered Nurse in the State of Colorado by date of hire.
  • Current BLS Certification.
  • Five years of experience as an RN in a clinical setting.
  • Two years of supervisory experience in a medical field.
