The area’s dedication to scholarship facilitates broader conversations within the College and beyond. Our faculty’s work appears regularly in the top conference programs, journals, and book series in our field, garnering international recognition. Our graduate programs in musicology prepare students for careers in scholarship and teaching at colleges and universities.

Position Summary: The College of Music invites applications for a tenure-track position in music history at the rank of assistant professor beginning August 2022. Duties will include: (1) Research – maintaining an active program of research and scholarly publication focused on any tradition or repertoire since 1800 that complements the expertise of current faculty; (2) Teaching – developing and teaching undergraduate and graduate courses in music history that complement existing offerings and reflect the candidate’s research interests; recruiting students into the graduate program in musicology; serving on graduate advisory committees (MA, PhD, and DMA); and (3) Service– serving on divisional/college/university committees; and other duties as assigned by the Division and/or College.

Minimum Qualifications: PhD in historical musicology or a related discipline at time of appointment; demonstrated excellence in college-level teaching either as a faculty member or teaching assistant/fellow; an active research agenda in an area that complements those of current faculty.

Preferred Qualifications: Engagement with emerging methodologies in musicology, emphasis in perspectives and communities traditionally marginalized in narratives of music history; strong publication record; interest in contributing to the BA in Critical Studies in Music and Society, which will launch in the fall 2022; ability to teach Western music history survey courses.
