Job Description:

The Success Coach will employ a multi-disciplinary approach to assist students who are dealing with a multitude of issues that serve as barriers to academic success. This position provides comprehensive support, individual triage/case management, and advocacy services to students who may be experiencing basic needs insecurities. The emphasis will be on those full-time at-risk students who have completed at least 30 credits toward degree completion. We have learned that all too often it's not the rigors of an academic program that prevent students from being successful, but food insecurity, homelessness, emancipation from foster care, parental neglect, chronic or persistent poverty, domestic violence, legal issues, financial emergencies, and other unanticipated events in their lives.

The Success Coach is responsible for, but not limited to, the assistance in the development, implementation, and evaluation of systemic interventions and sustainable programs that ameliorate basic needs in a manner that promotes dignity and minimizes marginalization. Their goal will be to advance and maintain relationships with campus and community partners in an effort to provide comprehensive cohesive services, information, and programs to students, which in turn will support retention and completion with a focus on equity.

The Success Coach among other duties, meets with students, assesses needs, makes appropriate referrals, follows up with students, and tracks success. They also are responsible for, providing technical assistance to the Single Point of Contact for Homelessness and Hunger (SPOC), in the on-going efforts to oversee needs-based funds, expanding of basic needs services/programs, creating and implementing educational workshops for students, responding to students in distress, maintaining confidential records, and coordinating the on-campus community resources for student initiatives. The work produced by this position requires strong knowledge and experience in areas of student advocacy, food and housing insecurity, and community support resources.

Essential Duties and Responsibilities:

  • Provide short-term triage case management and/or social service referrals for students experiencing non-academic issues that impacts students' academic success and completion.
  • Assist in the implementation of a comprehensive program that assists students in addressing basic needs through a combination of direct service and outreach.
  • Support increased equity and social mobility by planning, coordinating, implementing and assessing comprehensive and cohesive campus-wide programs and services designed to identify and meet the needs of under-resourced students.
  • Assist in the implementation of wraparound services for students, including but not limited to connecting eligible low-income students to safety net programs through a coalition of community-based organizations, government agencies, foundations, and non-profit organizations.
  • Assists students with application assistance and advocacy, for food assistance programs, medical insurance, emergency funds, fuel assistance, etc.
  • Coordinate workshops pertaining to navigation of student resources, access issues, financial literacy, and career readiness
  • Assist in identifying grant opportunities related to needs-based insecurities
  • Assist with the implementation of policies and procedures in collaboration with various departments to best meet the basic needs of individual students and the broader student population.


? Serve as a member of or collaborate with the Campus Behavioral Intervention Team.

? Implement and promote basic needs centers at all college locations, to include essential items for students to access as needed; e.g. non-perishable food, clothes, feminine hygiene products, discounted books, and community partner information.

  • Provide monthly and annual reports as needed related to grants, research, unit activities, and other unit programs and initiatives.
  • Represent the college in external committees on issues associated with student basic needs. Participate in trainings and professional development opportunities to remain current in the field.
  • Coordinates representation with Director of Project Access at DHE sponsored and other statewide meetings/events including housing insecurity initiatives, and other events as needed e.g. issues surrounding childcare, health insurance or domestic violence for college students.
  • Facilitate formal and informal events to raise awareness about the prevalence and considerations of food and housing insecurity, and to destigmatize conversations about these topics. This may include classroom visits, professional development sessions, tabling events, and workshops, and presentations.
  • Collaborates closely with Health Services, Student Success, Enrollment Center, Financial Aid Office, Business Office and other offices that directly serve students.
  • Maintain confidential student information and records
  • Assist with regular assessment of services/programs, including student needs assessment, program efficiency and effectiveness, and student outcomes. Assessment will be both formal and informal, and may include surveys, intake/out-take forms, qualitative and quantitative data, feedback sessions, and benchmarking.
  • Supervises and manages work-study students.
  • Provides financial coaching and budget planning to students and assistance with identity theft, and assistance with credit repair and make appropriate referrals when needed.
  • Serve on college-wide and community committees as requested/required.
  • Perform other duties as assigned, consistent with the Collective Bargaining Agreement.



Requirements:

Required Qualifications:

  • A bachelor's degree from an accredited college or university is required. A Master's degree from an institutionally accredited college or university is preferred.
  • Three years of increasingly responsible experience working in an educational setting.
  • Resourcefulness in identifying support services for students.
  • Experience with and commitment to working with low-income families and individuals.
  • Demonstrated commitment to diversity, social justice and inclusivity.
  • Excellent time management, organizational and computer software skills.


Preferred:

  • Experience as an Advisor/Counselor at a community college
  • Bilingual English/Spanish
  • Community College experience
