HCA Healthcare System seeks an accomplished and engaged leader for the newly created position of Vice President of Academic Affairs to enhance, promote, and support the academic quality and professional culture of HCA Healthcare’s graduate medical education programs.

HCA Healthcare is currently the largest sponsor of graduate medical education in the United States with 61 teaching hospitals, 312 ACGME accredited residency and fellowship programs, and a total enrollment of more than 5,100 residents and fellows. The planned growth of GME within the HCA Healthcare system through 2025 is expected to increase total enrollment to 7,500 residents and fellows. Many of HCA’s efforts in graduate medical education are in the early stages of development, with the majority of GME programs established during the last five-year period.  While HCA’s graduate medical education programs bring substantial value today, as the programs mature, they will provide even greater value, positioning HCA Healthcare as a leader and preferred choice for physicians in graduate medical education.

The Vice President of Academic Affairs role requires a strong commitment to excellence in teaching, creativity and innovation to address issues and problems in medical education, and ability to inspire program leaders and faculty to achieve the highest standards of quality in medical education. Leadership is an essential characteristic. Reporting to the President of Graduate Medical Education, the Vice President of Academic Affairs will serve as a key member of the senior leadership team for HCA GME and as advisor to the President of Graduate Medical Education on academic matters in medical education. The successful candidate will have an MD, MD/PhD, DO, or PhD degree, at least 10 years of progressive experience within medical education in a multi-program institution and demonstrated leadership ability in an academic setting.
