Position Type: Part-Time

Description

Purpose: Responsible for instructing student athletes in the rules and fundamentals of Track & Field; and providing input and assistance to the head coach in determining fundamental philosophy, skills, and techniques.

Duties:

  • Assist the head coach in recruiting, practice planning, and meet preparation
  • Maintain current knowledge and abides by NCAA rules, policies, procedures
  • Demonstrates integrity and upholds the values and mission of the University
  • Commitment to diversity, equity, and inclusion
  • Supports the total athletic program
  • Contributes to team effort by welcoming new and different work requirements; exploring new opportunities to enhance the services of the division; helping others accomplish related job results as and where needed.


Primary Contacts:

Department Director, coaching staff, Athletic Training staff, Recreation Coordinators, Coordinator of Athletic and Recreation Facilities, Secretary, student employees, Student Affairs staff, Admission staff, prospective students and families, enrolled students, Registrar, Faculty Athletic Representative, and other members of the University community as well as the local and outside community.

Supervision Exercised: Student workers

Supervision Received: Works toward a previously defined objective and uses a wide range of procedures exercising discretion and judgment; consulting and referring to the head coach as appropriate.

Qualifications

Education: Bachelors - preferred

Experience: 1 year college coaching preferred and/or high school coaching

Specialized Training: Proficient in the use of Microsoft Office programs, camera, recording devices, Track & Field equipment, valid driver license, operating University vans for the team and other transportation as needed and First Aid, CPR, and AED certification

-Develop and nurture an effective, productive, and respectful rapport and working relationship with Department Director, coaching staff, Athletic Training staff, Recreation Coordinators, Coordinators of Athletic and Recreation Facilities, Secretary, student employees, Student Affairs staff, Admission staff, prospective students, and families, enrolled students, Registrar, Faculty Athletic Representative, and other members of the University community as well as the local and outside community, maintaining an appropriate level of professionalism

-Communicate information clearly and concisely and listen well to others

-Must possess strong communication skills and strengths in public speaking

Accuracy:

-Maintain a high level of accuracy, consistently reviewing work to detect errors, oversights, or omissions

Initiative:

-Take immediate and independent action when necessary assuming initiative for creative problem solving

-Accomplish tasks with follow through to completion

-Demonstrate creativity and high energy

Technical:

-Possess an aptitude for technological development and its implications for appropriate automation of office

Work Environment, Physical Demands:

Multiple service hours; standing or sitting in one position for long periods; ability to move Track & Field equipment; computer data input; multiple concurrent tasks with service interruptions; strict confidentiality; detailed work; operating camera, recording devices, copier and available for evening and weekend work as necessary
