Job Summary
Reporting to the Assistant Bursar and receiving work lead direction from the Cashiering Supervisor, the Accounting Technician performs cashiering duties, receipts, records payments to appropriate PeopleSoft accounts using TRANSACT. The Accounting Technician will prepares bank deposits; calculates registration fees for the adding or re-adding of dropped classes pre- and post-census; posts financial aid loan and scholarship checks to students after verifying eligibility. Also, will analyze student accounts; responds to student inquiries by interpreting complex financial records; handles the issuance of the university identification cards for students, and occasionally for staff and faculty in the Bursar’s Office.
Key Responsibilities
- Receipt payments utilizing the TRANSACT Payment System & PeopleSoft.
- Handling and processing departmental deposits and electronics files
- Monitor checks at window (athletic, scholarships, returned/reissued checks etc.)
- Balance cash fund daily, prepare bank deposits, calculate registration fees, and balance petty cash requests
- Issue Tower ID Cards and assist with maintenance of ID card machines
- Verify enrollment and post financial aid and scholarship checks
- Responsible for answering Bursar emails, phones, chat and Qless System
- Communicates with students, parents, employees and external agencies to provide information on student account activity.
- Educate students how to better utilize the system to ensure deadlines are met and classes are secured.
- Thorough knowledge of the principles and practices of financial record keeping.
- General knowledge of the basic principles of accounting.
- Ability to adjust accounts and prepare documentation for various reporting systems.
- Thorough knowledge of CASHNet and PeopleSoft systems
- Ability to compose and appropriately format correspondence and reports
- Knowledge of software applications: word processing, spreadsheet, database management
- Ability to perform accurately in a detail-oriented environment
- Ability to handle multiple work priorities, organize, plan work and projects to meet and exceed customer needs and office demands
- Ability to maintain confidentiality and appropriately handle sensitive communications with students, employees and external agencies
- Excellent customer service and public relations skills
- Strong written and oral communication skills
- Ability to communicate Bursar’s Office policies and procedures to students in a clear, concise manner
- Any equivalent combination of education and experience which provides the required knowledge and abilities
- Equivalent to three years of progressively responsible financial record-keeping experience which has provided the above knowledge and abilities
- Experience within the CSU or public higher education
- Experience using PeopleSoft, CASHNet, and third party payment systems
- Experience using Word Excel Spreadsheets and Google documents
Compensation
Classification: Accounting Technician II
Anticipated Hiring Range: $3,620/month - $3,700/month
Salary Range: $3,210/month - $5,449/month
