Job Description:

Fairfield University is currently seeking qualified applicants for the position of Associate Director of Athletics for Compliance and Student Services. Eventual title and rank will be dependent upon qualifications and experience. Fairfield Athletics is committed to providing a championship caliber experience to its student-athletes in all aspects of their education; competitively, academically, and in the community. RESPONSIBILITIES: The Associate Director of Athletics is responsible for overseeing the day-to-day administration and operation of a comprehensive compliance and rules education program for 20 varsity sports and approximately 450 student-athletes to ensure adherence to all NCAA, conference, and institutional rules and regulations. The position will serve as the department’s liaison with the offices of: Admissions, Financial Aid, Residence Life, Student Affairs/Student Conduct and International Students. This position includes administrative oversight of the Student-Athlete Academic Center staff and operations. Oversight and management of the athletic scholarship award process is incorporated into this role in coordination with each varsity sport program. Additionally, this position will serve as the sport administrator for select varsity programs. Other Administrative duties and Committee assignments to be determined by the Director of Athletics.



QUALIFICATIONS

EDUCATION: Bachelor’s degree required. Master’s Degree or Law Degree preferred.

EXPERIENCE: Candidates should have demonstrated knowledge of NCAA rules and compliance procedures, strong interpersonal, organizational, written and oral communication skills. Preference is for candidates with knowledge of NCAA compliance related software, including CAI and ARMS (or related software).

KNOWLEDGE AND SKILLS: Strong interpersonal, organizational, written and verbal communication skills;

computer skills, including the NCAA CAI program.

UNUSUAL WORK CONDITIONS: Work schedule requires nights and weekends

when necessary.

REPORTS TO: Director of Athletics

ESSENTIAL FUNCTIONS:

1. Oversees all day-to-day compliance activities to ensure the department is adhering to all rules and regulations of the institution, conference and the NCAA.

2. Educates athletic department staff, coaches, student-athletes and university liaisons, alumni and donors regarding NCAA rules and legislation.

3. Oversees, monitors and forecasts all athletic scholarship awards and allocations in collaboration with each varsity program.

4. Oversees the Student-Athlete Academic Center staff and operations as well as the data collection and organization of all APR, GSR and federal graduation reports

5. Serves as the conduit to admissions and financial aid offices to assist coaches with the recruitment of student-athletes

6. Department liaison to student service focused offices, including but no limited to, residential life, student affairs, student conduct, Title IX, General Counsel and international students

7. Coordinates revisions and updates to the student-athlete handbook and other department-wide documents

8. Organizes athletic grant-in-aid for summer school procedures.

9. Serves as a sport administrator for select varsity programs

10. Provides game management oversight for selected athletics events

11. Participate in the professional development of the department.

  • Communicate effectively with supervisor concerning pertinent departmental matters

  • Monitor developments in Athletics through membership in professional associations, attendance at workshops and seminars, and in the reading of professional literature

  • Promote a courteous image as a university representative

  • Attend departmental staff meetings as requested,

  • Ensure student-athletes, individual and team efforts, are recognized

  • Perform efficiently in all work-related functions,

  • Support the university and departmental mission, vision and cultural commitments, including participating in community service activities as possible.



12. Promote safe and secure working conditions.

  • Promote the proper utilization of equipment and materials,

  • Notify supervisor immediately of any unsafe working conditions.



13. To be responsible for the application and management of multiple budget areas:

  • Budgeting, oversight and approval of compliance/student services expenditures throughout the fiscal year for both administrative units and assigned teams

  • Forecast the annual budgetary needs of the department for the upcoming fiscal year for both administrative units and assigned teams



14. Performs other duties as directed or dictated by the Director of Athletics

Pay Range: $70,000-$80,000

This position is based at Fairfield University’s Fairfield, CT campus.
