Description/Job Summary
Under the supervision of the Director of Adult Basic Education and Literacy Services, the Tester / Counselor is responsible for the daily operation of the Workforce Development and Continuing Education Testing Center.

Under the supervision of the Director of Adult Basic Education and Literacy Services, the Tester / Counselor is responsible for the daily operation of the Workforce Development and Continuing Education Testing Center.

Essential Job Functions:
- Assists with ABE/GED® and Community ESL testing and registration.
- Monitors and distributes resource materials to adjunct faculty and staff.
- Assists with telephone inquiries regarding ABE/GED® programs and student enrollment.
- Conducts quality checks for student registration and enrollment forms.
- Submits student registration forms to the registration staff.
- Perform other duties as assigned.
- The Tester/Counselor knows the formal and informal departmental goals, standards, policies and procedures as it relates to student testing and counseling for the division and the college at large. The Tester/Counselor is sensitive to the interrelationship of both people and functions within the department.
- On a regular basis, the Tester/Counselor exercises administrative judgment and assumes responsibility for decisions, consequences, and results having an impact on people and quality of services within the functional area.
- The Tester/Counselor exchanges non-routine information using tact and persuasion as appropriate. Good oral and written communication skills are required.
- Sitting in normal seated position for extended periods of time.
- Reaching by extending hand(s) or arms in any direction.
- Finger dexterity required to manipulate objects with fingers rather than with whole hand(s) or arm(s), for example, using a keyboard.
- Ability to see within normal parameters.
- Ability to hear within normal range.
- Ability to move about.
Education:
- High School Diploma or general equivalency diploma.
- 1-3 years of professional work experience.
- Experience in a higher education setting and knowledge of State policies and practices preferred.
- Knowledge of CASAS and TABE assessments preferred
- Knowledge of all LACES data elements
- Strong organizational skills with attention to detail required.
- Excellent oral and written communication skills with a focus on customer service.
- Experience working in a multi-cultural community college environment a plus.
