North Carolina Wesleyan College was chartered by the state of North Carolina in 1956 when individuals petitioned the United Methodist Church Annual Conference to locate a college in Rocky Mount.  The College officially opened in 1960 with 92 students and four years later 33 students received their degrees at the College’s first Commencement. Today, North Carolina Wesleyan College, still affiliated with the United Methodist Church, is a vibrant, four-year, co-educational liberal arts college with many professional programs located on an attractively planned 200-acre campus.  The Wesleyan community includes students from diverse cultural and racial backgrounds and the mission of NC Wesleyan is to prepare these students for professional advancement, life-long learning, and responsible participation in their communities. At North Carolina Wesleyan College, we provide students with opportunities to make meaningful connections and learn through innovative teaching approaches. The distinctive Wesleyan experience equips our graduates to make a positive impact on the world.

Accredited by the Commission on Colleges of the Southern Association of Colleges and Schools, the College awards both Bachelor of Arts and Bachelor of Science degrees in 34 undergraduate programs. More recently, NCWC also provides three certificates and two graduate programs.  Currently the College enrolls approximately 900 students in the traditional program and offers accelerated face-to-face and online programs through its adult and professional studies program at multiple sites in eastern North Carolina. Athletically, NC Wesleyan participates as a member of the NCAA Division III in the USA South Athletic Conference, with 16 sports teams.

Reporting directly to the President, the Provost is the chief academic officer of the College with responsibility for planning, development, implementation, coordination, review and administration of all academic programs and support services. The Provost serves as a member of the President’s Executive Team and as the primary representative and advocate for the faculty.   He/she will preside at faculty meetings and Dean’s Council meetings with the following direct reports: Associate Provost, Registrar, Director of Library, Dean of Students, Dean of Accreditation and the Provost administrative staff. The Associate Provost is responsible for student success, retention, career development, study abroad, and special academic programming.

The successful candidate will have demonstrated success as an administrator in higher education; commitment to excellent teaching and service; strong interpersonal, leadership and communication skills; and experience in strategic planning, academic program development, fiscal planning, and resource development and management. This visionary leader will be dedicated to the core principles of a liberal arts education with an appreciation for innovation and professional programs, and will passionately promote the mission, vision, identity, spirit and values of North Carolina Wesleyan College.  A doctoral degree is required and the candidate should be qualified to hold the rank of Professor in an academic discipline offered at the College. Therefore, preference will be given to candidates that have at least ten years of tenure-track teaching experience at the college/university level, as well as an established record of scholarship and service.

Compensation is commensurate with experience and includes a competitive salary and benefits.
