Compensation and Benefits

Anticipated Hiring Salary Range: $3,515 to $4,500 per month

Full classification Salary Range: $3,515 to $6,358 per month

This is a full-time, probationary, exempt position.

The CSU system provides a comprehensive benefit package that includes medical, dental and vision plans, membership in the California Public Employees Retirement System (CalPERS), sick and vacation time, and 14 paid holidays a year. Job Summary

Under the supervision of the Dean of the Lyles College of Engineering, the Communications Specialist is responsible for promoting the Lyles College’s services, programs and accomplishments to students, the campus, industry, and to the broader community. Responsibilities also include the creation and dissemination of communications on behalf of the Lyles College and assisting Lyles College departments and programs with messaging in their specific units. This position researches, creates, manages, and drafts press releases, working with University Communications to coordinate the flow of news from the University. This position manages digital signage, promotes the Lyles College through social media, and maintains strong relationships with the University and the broader community. The incumbent is expected to work closely with University Communications, Brand Strategy and Marketing and with other academic communication specialists, to ensure that proper branding is followed and a consistent campus strategy is developed and executed to advance the academic mission of the Lyles College and the University. Work is performed independently under general supervision and requires regular exercising of judgment and discretion to interpret policies and procedures and objectives. Work is reviewed for soundness of judgment.

Key Qualifications
  • Good project management and time management skills.

  • Familiarity with digital photography, videography.

  • Demonstrated social media skills.

  • Strong story-telling and journalistic writing skills, as well as advanced editing and proofreading skills.

  • Exceptional interpersonal skills, including strong public speaking, listening and interpretive skills.

Education and Experience
  • A Bachelor's Degree, which includes relevant coursework in the field (i.e., Journalism, Public Relations).

  • At least two years of progressively responsible professional experience in news writing, editing, PR
