Scope of Job:
The College of Engineering and Computer Science at the University of Texas Rio Grande Valley (UTRGV) invites applications for a tenure-track assistant professor faculty position in the Department of Informatics and Engineering Systems to begin in the Fall of 2022.

The Department of Informatics and Engineering Systems currently has fifteen faculty members and offers several degree programs and research opportunities in the field of Informatics, Cyber Security, and Engineering Technology. The department offers a Bachelor of Science in Cybersecurity, a Bachelor of Science in Engineering Technology, and a Master of Science in Information Technology. The department offers research opportunities in informatics and engineering systems. Our programs prepare students for careers in industry and graduate study in informatics, engineering systems, and technology-related fields. We are actively pursuing program development at the undergraduate and graduate levels in cybersecurity. Candidates are encouraged to highlight relevant expertise and interest to help in the development of such programs. We are also interested in candidates who will expand our current faculty expertise within the broader area of cybersecurity.

In addition, the Department offers a range of research opportunities spanning systems engineering, and application of Computer Science. Together, the programs prepare students for graduate study in Computer Science and technology-related fields, as well as careers in industry, particularly in networking, software engineering, data mining, machine learning, human computer interaction, and web design/development.

Minimum Qualifications:
Candidates at the Assistant Professor level will be considered based on demonstrated potential to enhance the teaching and research capabilities of the Informatics & Engineering Systems Department. Candidates must meet the institutional requirements for tenure. Candidates at the Associate Professor/Professor level will be considered for a leadership position at the Department or College level.

Applicants must have an earned doctorate degree in Cybersecurity, Computer Science or other closely related field from an accredited university, or be expecting to receive the degree by the beginning of the start date. The successful candidate will have the ability to perform with excellence in teaching, research, and service activities. The candidate should be able to teach undergraduate / graduate core courses in Computer Science and Cybersecurity, develop laboratories, initiate externally funded research, and have publications of research results in archival journals. The University of Texas Rio Grande Valley (UTRGV) was created by the Texas Legislature in 2013 as the first major public university of the 21st century in Texas. This transformative initiative provided the opportunity to expand educational opportunities in the Rio Grande Valley, including a new School of Medicine, and made it possible for residents of the region to benefit from the Permanent University Fund - a public endowment contributing support to the University of Texas System and other institutions.

UTRGV has campuses and off-campus research and teaching sites throughout the Rio Grande Valley including in Boca Chica Beach, Brownsville (formerly The University of Texas at Brownsville campus), Edinburg (formerly The University of Texas-Pan American campus), Harlingen, McAllen, Port Isabel, Rio Grande City, and South Padre Island. UTRGV, a comprehensive academic institution, enrolled its first class in the fall of 2015, and the School of Medicine welcomed its first class in the summer of 2016.

UTRGV is a distributed institution. As such and as assigned, the position may require presence at multiple locations throughout the Rio Grande Valley. Work is performed primarily in a general office environment. This position is security sensitive and thereby subject to the provisions of the Texas Education Code §51.215. The retirement plan for this position is Teacher Retirement System of Texas (TRS), subject to the position being at least 20 hours per week and at least 135 days in length. This position has the option to elect the Optional Retirement Program (ORP) instead of TRS, subject to the position being 40 hours per week and at least 135 days in length.
