History Assistant Professor (Temporary Contract)

Salary: $65,088 - $99,876 per year

Description of Position:
This is a one-year, non-tenure-track, temporary assignment sabbatical leave replacement. The hired professor must be eligible for overload in both semesters. The professor would be given approximately 100% load for the spring 2022 and fall 2022 semesters and for all other purposes to be considered full-time, which includes attending department meetings, college meetings, and holding office hours.

Duties and Responsibilities:

Minimum Qualification-Education/Experience:
Master’s in history OR Bachelor’s in history AND Master’s in political science, humanities, geography, area studies, women’s studies, social science or ethnic studies.


possess a California Lifetime Credential to teach history OR if you do not possess the stated college degree requirement, you should upload an equivalency form in the attachment section of the online job application.

Desirable Qualifications:
  1. Ability to teach courses in the history of gender, race, and sexuality, including but not limited to History of American Women, History of Sexuality in North America, History of Native Americans, LGBTQ American History, etc. Applicants should be able to demonstrate a pattern of graduate coursework that has prepared the applicant to teach such courses.
  2. Willingness to provide leadership on the history department’s “Race and Ethnicity Project,” which aims to develop Open Educational Resources that can be used as both Professional Development and Classroom lesson plans on discrete topics related to the history of race in America.
  3. Demonstrated experience with course assessment and assessment of student learning outcomes
  4. Demonstrated ability to serve as the coordinator of an academic program, including scheduling, responding to student complaints, and participating in college governance via committee assignments.
