Job Description



PURPOSE AND SCOPE:

The Maintenance Specialist III performs a va riety of maintenance, repair s, installations, and restoration functions on facilities, equipment and systems at an LSC campus/location (including but not limited to carpentry, plumbing, painting, preventive maintenance, etc.) . May help mentor, counsel and assist lower-level maintenance employees within the department. Helps ensure worker s adhere to all safety standards and schedules. Some positions may focus on one particular area, such as locksmith functions.

ESSENTIAL JOB FUNCTIONS:

  • Facilitate s and coordinate s communicatio n both in person and by utilizing radios or telephones
  • Performs preventive maintenance on various equipment and systems as needed. May include fire suppression systems and fire pumps, generators, signage systems, sump pumps and solar panels, water softeners and purification systems, etc.
  • May ac t as a Lead for lower-level Maintenance employees, which include s duties such as; m akes sure employees adhere to department safety standards, procedures and guidelines, a ssign s work and wo rk areas, and e nsure s work is completed and meet s LSC standards
  • Perform s a variety carpentry /construction -related functions, such as building, repairing and/or installing cabinets, shelving, furniture, windows, doors, etc., p erform ing a variety of related repairs and maintenance, such as minor drywall and paint ing, and minor concrete work (slab w o rk on sidewalks, steps, wheel chair ramps, setting poles, etc.)
  • Performs a variety of plumbing-related functions, such as repairing leaks, replacing pipes, installations of plumbing material
  • Performs a variety of locksmith and key access functions, such as ; makes, issues and securely stores campus keys, maintains key-issuance records and key vault, and assists contractors and Technicians with room access as appropriate ; troubleshoots, repairs and installs locks
  • Perform s regular inspections and maintenance of assigned areas, such as eye wash and shower stations, exit lights, fire extinguishers, roof drains and gutters, and routine vehicle maintenance
  • Conduct s periodic walkthrough of buildings to ensure work standards and premises are in good working order. Updates and informs Facilities Manager of any issues, and performs corrective action (s) as appropriate
  • Performs and/or assists with Maintenance Specialist II duties as needed, and assists with minor requests from employees, such as hanging and moving pictures, moving furniture, adjusting keyboard holders, repairing drawers and cabinet doors, etc.
  • Performs a variety of administrative duties, such as recording, updating and maintaining maintenance logs, delivering packages, reviewing, updating, and closing work orders, maintaining inventory control of maintenance supplies, etc.
  • Responsible for other reasonable, related duties as assigned


  • KNOWLEDGE, SKILLS AND ABILITIES:
    • Must be able to understand and follow directions given orally and in writing, and must be able to read and understand the basics of blue prints
    • Must be well organized and possess good interpersonal communication skills
    • Capable of safely operating powered equipment, such as: saws, drills, and sanders, brush hog, tractor; and be able to determine which equipment to use for a particular purpose
    PHYSICAL ABILITIES:
    • Ability to communicate via radio and telephone
    • Ability to perform heavy lifting (up to 50 pounds) and labor intensive work associated with facilities maintenance
    • The work requires some physical exertion, such as long periods of standing; walking over rough, uneven, or rocky surfaces; recurring bending, crouching, stooping, stretching, reaching, or similar activities; or recurring lifting of moderately heavy items, such as typewriters and record boxes. The work may require specific, but common, physical characteristics and abilities, such as above average agility and dexterity.
    WORK SCHEDULE AND CONDITIONS :
    • Ability to work non-traditional hours as needed
    • The work involves some exposure to outdoor elements and exposure to physical hazards in working with standard equipment related to maintenance / repair and restoration. This exposure requires safety precautions due to working around moving parts, carts, machines, tools. Employees may be required to use protective clothing or gear, such as masks, boots, goggles, gloves, etc.
    REQUIRED QUALIFICATIONS:
    • High School D iploma or GED and at least 2 years of related work experience, or an equivalent combination of education and experience
    Salary

    Hiring salary range is $30,000 to $34,500 annually.

    Lone Star College provides a hiring salary range for all posted full-time non-faculty positions. Where your salary offer would fall in that range is determined by your related experience and education. Should you receive an offer of employment from Lone Star College, the resume submitted in the application process will be utilized to calculate your salary offer.
