PRIMARY DUTY:  Collaborative artist who will serve as pianist for rehearsals and performances, as well as coordinate student and other staff accompanist assignments.

 

ESSENTIAL FUNCTIONS:

  • Serve as pianist for three choral ensembles in rehearsals, concerts, and tours.
  • Serve as pianist for select students, including studio lessons and recital appearances.
  • Serve as collaborative artist for faculty and guest artists.
  • Coordinate student and other staff accompanist assignments for applied studios.
  • Other piano related duties

 

REQUIREMENTS:

        Education:  Bachelor’s degree

        Certification/License:              

        Experience/Skills:  The successful candidate must be an excellent sight reader with solid and versatile piano technical skills. The candidate will also have experience performing all levels of collaborative literature with vocalists, instrumentalists, and in various choral ensembles. In addition, the Staff Accompanist must be professional, dependable, and collegial. Demonstrated ability to work positively with students, faculty, and staff is important. Sufficient mastery of the English language is also required.  

 

PREFERRED QUALIFICATIONS:

        Education: Master’s degree in Collaborative Piano    

        Skills:  Prior successful experience as a collaborative artist at the university level.

 

WORKING CONDITIONS:  The Staff Accompanist will work in air-conditioned performance spaces.  Appropriate COVID-19 precautions (masks indoors, social distancing, etc.) are required.  

 

SUPERVISORY RESPONSIBILITIES:  The Staff Accompanist will oversee a small number of student accompanist assignments.

 

EQUIPMENT/MATERIALS USED:  Steinway grand pianos (performance spaces), a Steinway baby grand piano (office), and various pianos in faculty offices.         

 

TYPICAL PHYSICAL DEMANDS:  The Staff Accompanist must be able to complete essential functions and have the ability to lift up to 20 pounds.
