Job Summary

The BUENO Center for Multicultural Education encourages applications for an Executive Director ! This position is responsible for the successful leadership and management of the organization and for generating ideas for securing federal, state, local or foundation funding to support the Center’s mission. The individual hired for this position will report to the Dean of the School of Education.

What Your Key Responsibilities Will Be

Leadership
  • Work with program directors and staff to uphold the established vision and mission of the BUENO Center.
  • Act as a professional advisor to the Dean on all aspects of the organization's activities.
  • Foster effective teamwork among the program directors and staff of the BUENO Center, the Dean and professors in the School of Education on the Boulder campus.
  • Act as a spokesperson for the organization at all public functions, conduct official correspondence on behalf of the Center and communicate with program directors and staff about issues that affect the Center.
  • Represent the organization at community activities to improve the organization's community and national profile.

Community Relations/Advocacy
  • Identify existing networks and relationships and establish new collaborative arrangements with community organizations/groups, funders, local public school districts, politicians, and other organizations to help achieve the goals of the center.
  • Communicate with state and local partners and organizations to keep them informed of the work of the center.
  • Connect with appropriate CU personnel regarding university funding opportunities and negotiation and promotion of BUENO’s mission and activities.

Operational Planning and Management
  • Develop and coordinate an operational plan, which incorporates goals, policies and objectives that work towards the mission of the center.
  • Coordinate the efficient and effective day-to-day operation of the organization and ensure BUENO is meeting the expectations of clients and funding agencies.
  • Prepare monthly meeting agenda and supporting materials.

Program Planning and Management
  • Ensure that the programs and services offered by the BUENO Center contribute to the organization's Mission and Vision and reflect the priorities of the School of Education.
  • Support program directors of the BUENO Center with all aspects of programming and services, from conceptualization through evaluations and assure the quality of said programs is upheld.

Human Resources Planning and Management
  • Determine staffing requirements for the BUENO Center, ensure funding is available to meet payroll obligations, and work with program directors to recruit, interview and hire staff and faculty with skills and knowledge to help further BUENO’s mission.
  • Coordinate the implementation of the human resources policies, procedures and practices including the development of job descriptions for staff, and the management of the performance review cycle for all BUENO Center staff and research faculty. This includes providing mentorship for program directors as appropriate and conducting annual performance reviews.
  • Establish a positive, healthy and safe work environment in accordance with all appropriate university policies and regulations.

Financial Planning and Management
  • Identify and secure external funding to maintain the BUENO Center’s operation and funding.
  • Work with BUENO Center program directors and other appropriate staff to prepare comprehensive annual budget reports as well as regular revenue and expenditures reports for the Center and the Dean of the School of Education.
  • Work with other BUENO program directors to secure adequate federal, state or private funding for the operation of the organization and work in collaboration with the HR and finance manager to ensure funds are administered according to approved budgets and the organization follows all federal and state funding regulations.
  • Research funding sources, lead all aspects of the development of fundraising plans and, with the assistance of other BUENO program directors, write funding proposals to increase the funds of the organization and participate in fundraising activities as appropriate.


What You Should Know

This position will be independently funded by revenue generated or raised from gifts, grants, and campus revenue-share programs. Internal funding equivalent to three years of salary is guaranteed and may be used at the director’s discretion to supplement salary as funding sources and additional revenue streams are being established.

What We Can Offer

The salary range is $125,000 - $140,000 per year. Relocation assistance is available based on department policies.

What We Require

  • Master of Arts degree in Educational/Organizational Leadership with a related field of study such as Bilingual/Multicultural Education and/or Equity, Bilingualism & Biliteracy.
  • Five or more years of experience in a leadership position with emphasis in working in a college or university setting with diverse populations of students.
  • Five or more years of experience working with special populations including emerging bilingual students and students with disabilities.
  • K-12 teaching experience in bilingual/bilingual special education settings.
  • Successful record of securing grants and/or foundation money.
  • Ability to travel for work.

  • Proven leadership and management skills.
  • Knowledge of federal and state funding sources that aligns with the mission of the BUENO Center.
  • Knowledge and experience with human resources management in a University setting.
  • Knowledge of financial management principles and strategies
  • Knowledge of project management and the ability to work with others who manage programs that support the mission of the department.


What We Would Like You To Have

  • Ph.D. or EdD in Bilingual/Multicultural Education or Educational/Organizational Leadership with a related field of study such as Bilingual/Multicultural Education.
  • Bilingual (Spanish & English preferred).
