STATUS: Full time Tenure track

REPORTS TO: Department Chair
PLACEMENT: Placement on salary schedule is dependent on qualifications.

POSITION SUMMARY

The Public Services Librarian is responsible for developing and encouraging a positive, engaging, and user-centered approach to customer service and library outreach; demonstrate respect for students; understand learning styles and apply understanding to institution-related activities; demonstrate integrity and promote diversity and open communications. Thirty-five work hours a semester constitute a standard load. Work schedule may include late afternoon, evening, or Saturday hours and hours at branch campuses or satellite centers. Position is subject to all terms and provisions of the Joliet Junior College faculty contract.

ESSENTIAL JOB DUTIES AND KEY RESPONSIBILITIES

1. Provide reference and information services for students, staff, and faculty.

2. Provide information literacy and instructional service support.

3. Assist with the development of library and information programs and services.

4. Assist in the publication of the library webpage, social media outlets, and information resource guides.

5. Act as a liaison to assigned departments and assist in collection management activities in all forms of library information resources.

6. Serve as primary coordinator of circulation and interlibrary loan services.

7. Serve as primary coordinator in the continued development and maintenance of materials related to the history of the College.

8. Serve as the primary coordinator of library displays and marketing efforts.

9. Oversee scheduling of instruction and reference services.

10. Maintain current awareness of professional practice and commitment to personal career development activities.

11. Support all functional service areas of the Library.

12. Participate in library and related course development, teaching, assessment, and planning activities.

13. Participate in appropriate departmental meetings and recruitment activities; serve on committees.

14. Coordinate with other librarians and departments in the development of the college’s archives.

15. Demonstrate a strong commitment to teaching and learning.

16. Demonstrate strong understanding and commitment to the community college mission.

17. Meet other contractual obligations as spelled out in the Joliet Junior College faculty contract.

MINIMUM QUALIFICATIONS

1. An MLS/MLIS/MSI degree in library science/information studies from an ALA accredited institution.

2. Demonstrated commitment to professional growth and development.

3. Experience in a public services setting with providing information literacy instruction.

4. Expertise in appropriate library technologies with ability to use and manage applicable software.

5. Ability to establish and maintain cooperative and effective working relationships with other members of the college and community, displaying cultural competence, as well as, emotional intelligence.

PREFERRED QUALIFICATIONS

1. Experience at the community college or university level, particularly reference and instructional experience. May include experience in special, school, and public librarianship.

2. Demonstrated experience in management of library public services activities.

3. Demonstrated experience working with local history collections.

4. Experience with traditional and non-traditional students from diverse backgrounds.

5. English and Spanish verbal and written communication proficiency.

6. Demonstrated multicultural competence.
