Job Details

The Religious Studies Program at the University of Nebraska at Omaha invites applications for a full-time faculty position at the rank of Assistant, Associate, or Full Professor to begin August 15, 2022. The successful candidate will be awarded the newly established Brooks Professorship in Religion and Social Justice. Faculty responsibilities will include teaching two courses per semester in Religion and Social Justice, a research assignment, and service related to the study of Religion and Social Justice. In addition, active participation in departmental program development is required.

Religious Studies at UNO is a diverse, student centered, community oriented, and innovative program that supports a wide range of interdisciplinary and international projects. Students in Religious Studies may pursue their studies on-line and/or on-site, and we have developed internship opportunities for students in non-profit organizations. In addition to developing and leading numerous interdisciplinary academic programs, Religious Studies faculty members have developed and led the following centers and academic units: the Goldstein Center for Human Rights, the Medical Humanities Program, the Native American Studies Program, the Islamic Studies program, and the Schwalb Center for Israel and Jewish Studies.  In recent years, we have collaborated with the Tri-Faith Initiative (TFI), an internationally recognized not-for-profit community organization dedicated to advancing religious literacy and positive relationships between different religious communities and other sectors of our society. Our department is seeking a new faculty member to help expand our commitment to the study of Religion and Social Justice through research publications, curricular development, and service to the community and the academy.
