Department Overview: Under the auspices of the Division of Enrollment Management, Marketing and Communications, the Office of Undergraduate Admissions prioritized NIU’s enrollment goals, while maintaining a student-centered, service-driven focus. We believe education is the primary tool for social mobility and means to holistic growth and development. This belief is the foundation of our engagement with students throughout their educational journey. We aim to seamlessly support and achieve enrollment management goals through student recruitment and admissions processes.
The professionals in our enrollment management area provide support to new and prospective students. Our advisors and counselors guide students through the admission and financial aid processes and introduce them to campus life.

University Description: Chartered in 1895, Northern Illinois University ( NIU ) is a student-centered, regional public research institution with a diverse and international student body of 20,130. The University is located approximately 65 miles from downtown Chicago and is a short drive from the vibrant western suburbs and Rockford metropolitan area. The University’s close proximity to Chicago and Rockford allows for strong collaborations with regional national labs and local innovation spaces that foster research and entrepreneurship opportunities across disciplines. Our research programs extend beyond the Illinois region with faculty conducting cutting-edge research and service programs with U.S. and international collaborators.

NIU has three extension centers located in Naperville, Rockford, and Hoffman Estates. The University contains 42 academic departments across seven colleges of Business, Education, Engineering and Engineering Technology, Health and Human Sciences, Law, Liberal Arts and Sciences, and Visual and Performing Arts. NIU offers 56 undergraduate majors and 80 graduate degree programs, including 22 doctoral programs, and the Juris Doctorate. NIU is a member of the Association of Public and Land-Grant Universities. Primary Function and Duties: This position is based on-campus in DeKalb and provides in-office admissions counseling (visitor interviews, e-mail response, telephone contact, presentations), and recruitment, yield, and territory/management (high school/ community college visits, college day/college night programs, college fairs/events/programs).
Duties and Responsibilities (generally)

• Responsible for secondary school and community college visitations and territorial management including college day/night programs, college fairs, and individual school visits. Extensive automobile travel and overnight travel required. Some weekend assignments required.
• Participate in the development and implementation of communication campaigns, social media engagement, search committees, and other on-campus committees.
• Responsible for on-campus visitor interviews, e-mail correspondence, telephone contact, customer service functions, outreach related activities, and follow-up (e.g., travel coordination, special events, etc.)
• Read and evaluate admissions applications and make admissions decisions based on campus enrollment goals.
• Responsible to assist the director and associate director in the development, coordination, and evaluation of recruitment and yield initiatives.
• Other staff assignments as required (admission reports, special events and projects, publications input, etc.). The position does not involve supervisory responsibilities.
Minimum Required Qualifications for this position

Minimum Required Qualifications:
Baccalaureate Degree. Experience in an admissions office or related field.

Additional Requirements:
Good oral, written and interpersonal communication skills. Demonstrated ability to give presentations before large groups. Dedication and commitment to customer service. Ability to project a favorable image on behalf of the University. Excellent organizational skills and attention to detail needed.

Education and Experience Preferred

Bilingual and able to read, write and speak Spanish proficiently. Prior experience in a college/university admissions office, recruitment, student affairs, or higher education.
