Opening Details

The College is pleased to announce an opening for a Student Financial Services Counselor. This is a full-time, year-round, regular appointment reporting to a senior member of the student financial services (SFS) team. The counselor is part of a ten member team and participates in all aspects of the SFS office including comprehensive advising and assistance to students and families in all areas of financing their Williams education (financial aid, billing and payments, loans). This position will also support several programmatic aspects of the office including outside awards, loan and grant programs as well as various collection and account efforts typical of a blended SFS model. The successful candidate will be expected to comply with federal, state, and institutional policies, should be comfortable with leading public presentations, and should plan to work with key partners across campus to ensure the best experience for all students.

Reporting through the Dean of Admission and Student Financial Services, undergraduates come to Williams from around the world and a wide variety of backgrounds. About 15 percent are first-generation college students, 21 percent are Pell Grant recipients, and 40 percent are U.S. students of color. Ten percent are international and they represent 96 countries around the world. The college is deeply committed to access. More than half of all students receive financial aid and among those students, the average cost is about $14,000. Nearly 20% pay nothing at all, and indebtedness rates at graduation are among the nation’s lowest. Our expectation is that the successful candidate will excel at working in a community that is broadly diverse with regard to race, ethnicity, socioeconomic status, gender, nationality, sexual orientation, and religion.

In addition to the general responsibilities described above, we plan to utilize the strengths, experience, and interests of our new colleague in order to provide the greatest opportunity for professional growth and advance the ambitious goals of the office.
