Position Summary: Ensure all PSCC campuses are cleaned to a specified standard to provide a clean, safe environment for PSCC students, employees and visitors by managing the housekeeping contractors and PSCC housekeeping staff, inventory and budgets, and through self-performance work on all campuses. Daily supervision, management and execution of Pellissippi State’s recycling program to include managing the recycling contractor, evaluating contractor services, hiring, supervising, and evaluating recycling material handlers for all campuses. Cooperation and communication with the Sustainability Committee to ensure proper accounting and approval concerning the budget and budget process.

Essential Functions:

25% Walk and check buildings with the cleaning contractor to ensure clean bathroom facilities, walls, and floors. Review log-in sheets to verify hours worked and review billing for contracted services.

15% Check emails and communicate with PSCC staff, faculty and administration concerning special event services and housekeeping issues and complaints.

15% Order and ensure stock of housekeeping and recycling supplies on all campuses.

20% Provide supervision, direction and assistance to the housekeeper and recycling staff with cleaning of buildings, collection of trash and recycle products. Oversee and occasionally assist in cleaning floors in corridors, stairwells, offices, classrooms, labs, and other assigned areas.

5% Be available after hours for cleaning emergencies and cleaning for set-ups, as well as assist in setting up and taking down furniture items, displays and other materials. Help other departments collect and remove debris from buildings and building entryways.

5% Plan and oversee routine contracted carpet cleaning schedules. Plan and oversee routine contracted floor waxing and buffing schedules

10% Communicate and coordinate recycle materials collection with recycling contractor. Communicate with Sustainability Chair and Facilities Director concerning recycle program operations and budgets. Ensure that recycling machinery and vehicles are serviced and in good working order.

5% Other duties as assigned.

Job Requirements:

High School Diploma or GED and 4 years of practical cleaning experience, or Associates Degree and 3 years of practical cleaning experience, or Bachelor Degree and 2 years of practical cleaning experience in commercial cleaning of floors and commercial spaces; to include two years combined supervisory experience, and inventory and business-related reports and management .

Part-time work experience is calculated at 50% credit of full-time work experience

Ability to meet deadlines. Ability to work independently and direct and schedule the tasks of others. Possesses a high degree of attention to detail. Ability to effectively communicate with PSCC administrators, staff, faculty and students. Must be customer service oriented. Ability to work within a budget, read reports, and use Microsoft Outlook and Excel.

Key Result Areas:

Assurance that all classrooms, offices, and restrooms are cleaned, stocked and ready for the day and all recycled materials are properly collected and processed in a timely manner.

Scope of Responsibility:

To understand the requirements and processes to clean business offices, classrooms, floor carpets, and restrooms in order to have a clean and safe building. To understand the requirements and processes to recycle materials from all campuses.

Physical Demands:

There is much walking required for this job as well as standing and being on feet most of the day. Being able to move, lift supplies, and travel from campus to campus. Yes. You must be able to communicate with vendors over the phone and in person. You must also communicate with the faculty and staff about complaints. You must be able to see that the rooms, including the floors, are clean and not wet. You have to see spots on carpet to have them cleaned. You have to be able to know the color of the tile to know if it needs to be stripped; to determine if the wax is yellowed or if that is the color of the tile. The same applies for the carpet; determine whether it is a spot or just the color of the carpet.

Hazards:

Getting cleaning chemicals in the eyes or on the skin. Getting hurt lifting supplies or falling on wet flooring as you are mopping. Risk of exposure to Blood borne pathogens, exposure to contaminants, pathogens and biohazards in recycled materials. The possibility of falling while cleaning and dusting from a ladder.

Pay Rate: $37,280 - $45,800/per year. Pay will be determined based on related work experience above required. To be considered in determining pay, all related work experience must be listed on the application.
