Assistant Professor: Clinical Psychology

The Department of Psychology at Smith College invites applications for a tenure-track position in Clinical Psychology at the rank of Assistant Professor, to begin July 1, 2022. We are open to a broad range of content expertise addressing psychopathology (especially disorders such as depression, anxiety, and eating disorders that disproportionately affect women and/or LGBTQ+ populations) including relevant prevention, intervention, and/or transdiagnostic abnormal processes (e.g., deleterious sociocultural factors; basic affective or cognitive dysfunction). Successful candidates should be prepared to engage actively with diverse students across the liberal arts. Teaching responsibilities for this position will regularly include two courses per semester (sometimes two sections of the same course): a course in the introductory sequence (e.g., Introduction to Psychology, Abnormal Psychology, or Research Methods), an intermediate course in a clinical area of expertise that complements the current offerings (e.g., assessment or intervention), an upper-level seminar (e.g., Research Seminar in the candidate’s area of interest, or Practicum Seminar supervising students in field placements) plus advising and mentoring (e.g., about the path to graduate school in clinical psychology). Other courses may be taught depending upon departmental needs in negotiation with the candidate. The successful applicant will maintain an active research program through which Smith students can obtain hands-on experience as researchers including presenting and writing research. We are particularly interested in a scholar whose teaching and/or research would provide students with opportunities to encounter clinical populations. We are open to candidates whose methods include advanced data-collection techniques (e.g., human neuroscience, event sampling methodology) and/or advanced statistics and/or mixed method data analysis. A Ph.D. in Clinical Psychology or Counseling Psychology from a doctoral program holding accreditation from the American Psychological Association (APA) or the Psychological Clinical Science Accreditation System (PCSAS) is expected by the time of appointment.
