The Department of Psychology at Smith College invites applications for a tenure-track position in Culture and Identity Development at the rank of Assistant Professor, to begin July 1, 2022. Successful candidates should be prepared to engage actively with diverse students across the liberal arts. Teaching responsibilities for this position will regularly include two courses per semester: a course in the Introductory sequence (e.g., Introduction to Psychology or Research Methods), an intermediate course in Psychology of Adolescence and Emerging Adulthood, and an upper-level seminar in a topic in the candidate’s area of expertise related to culture and identity. Other courses may be taught depending upon the candidate’s field of specialization. The successful applicant will maintain an active research program through which Smith students can obtain hands-on experience as researchers. Areas of particular interest within adolescence and emerging adulthood include: sexual identity, racial identity development, and other types of cultural identity development (e.g., religion, social class). A social-justice approach, including community-based learning, will also be considered. A Ph.D. in Developmental Psychology, Cultural Psychology, or a closely related field is expected by the time of appointment.
