Nominations and applications are invited for the Associate Dean for Research in the College of Health and Human Sciences (HHS) at Purdue University. The Associate Dean of Research is responsible for overseeing and promoting the research mission of HHS. The Associate Dean of Research will identify new collaborative funding opportunities and facilitate new research partnerships within HHS, across the University, and with external stake-holders. The Associate Dean of Research will support and grow the strength and vitality of the research programs of HHS faculty. The Associate Dean for Research serves on the senior administrative team of HHS.

Founded in 2010, the College of Health and Human Sciences is the third-largest College at Purdue, and includes nine academic units: Health and Kinesiology; Health Sciences; Hospitality and Tourism Management; Human Development and Family Studies; Nursing; Nutrition Science; Psychological Sciences; Public Health and Speech, Language, and Hearing Sciences. These nine units hold national and international recognition for their fundamental scientific and programmatic contributions to improving the health and well-being of individuals and communities. HHS provides a rich environment for world-changing discovery and boasts a robust and diverse research portfolio. In fiscal year 2020, HHS received ~$34.7million in research and sponsored program awards. Funding sources to HHS include the Department of Health and Human Services, the National Science Foundation, the Department of Defense, the Institute for Education Sciences, the U.S. Department of Agriculture, private foundations, non-profit and state organizations.

Qualifications for the position

  • Experience with establishing and managing a vibrant research program, with demonstrated skills in conducting exceptional scholarship, obtaining consistent extramural research funding, research mentoring, and cultivating research careers.
  • An innovative scholar demonstrating vision, and a commitment to supporting and fostering inter-disciplinary research.
  • Earned doctorate with accomplishments that merit appointment as a Full Professor with tenure in one of the nine academic units.
  • Excellent communication, collaboration, and management skills.
  • Experience with and a commitment to working with individuals and groups from a variety of backgrounds and cultures, and to expanding and fostering an inclusive and equitable climate.


Responsibilities of the Associate Dean

  • Administering and coordinating intramural funding opportunities for faculty.
  • Advising in the preparation and processing of extramural grant applications.
  • Facilitating the development of multidisciplinary, multi-investigator research projects.
  • Administering and coordinating competitions for research grants and awards.
  • Serving as the College's liaison with the Office of the Executive Vice President for Research and Partnerships, Sponsored Program Services, Discovery Park, and other University offices.
