Schedule Information: 8 am - 4:30 pm, Some evenings and weekends

Hours per Week: 37.5

Work Conditions:

Work is primarily indoor and sedentary in nature. Some evening and weekend responsibilities.

Duties of Position:

Provides a full range of retention, engagement and direct student support services to support historically underrepresented students, including Ignite Scholars, address barriers and successfully navigate systems.

Maintains strong connections with underrepresented students, meeting with them individually and in cohort groups, communicating with them frequently and tracking their progress.

Creates new programs and initiatives specifically focused on the retention and completion of students of color and low-income students, which complement and enrich the academic experience, promote identity exploration and enhance leadership skills.

Meets with students to identify barriers to full participation in the curricular and co-curricular environments and determine action plans.

Helps students resolve challenges by clarifying protocols and making referrals to faculty, coordinators, advisors and counselors, or other support services as needed.

Provides culturally responsive academic, personal and professional guidance to support student success and address barriers.

Support summer success initiatives that assist students with successfully transitioning to Harper.

Supports the successful delivery of cultural programs and trainings with the VP of DEI and Cultural Center Manager which celebrate the diversity of our community and educates the campus community on issues of identity, diversity, inclusion and social justice.

Coordinates a peer mentor program that connects students across the campus and aids in their transition to the academic, extracurricular and social aspects of the college.

Develops and manages communication strategies via social media and collaborates with Harper’s Communications team.

Creates assessments for new initiatives and reporting of key metrics.

Provides consultation to faculty/staff as needed in service of supporting historically underrepresented students.

Serve as liaisons to designated student organizations.

Performs other duties as assigned.

Educational Requirements: Bachelor’s degree in psychology, education, communications or related area; Master’s in Student Affairs Administration, Higher Education, College Personnel or Counseling preferred.

Experience Requirements: Minimum of two years’ experience working in Multicultural/Diversity Affairs Leadership/Student Development, Student Activities, Academic Advising or related area in a university setting required. Experience working with multicultural/diverse student populations required. Ability to engage and relate well to all segments of the campus. Experience planning programs from design to implementation. Must have strong communication skills, verbal and writing. Proficiency in Microsoft Word, Excel and social media and marketing mediums required.
