The Department of Film & Media Arts seeks to hire a
tenure-track assistant professor in the research area of media arts
production. The successful candidate will have experience working
with a range of contemporary digital storytelling tools and
methodologies, including immersive and interactive media and other
emerging media formats; a record of ongoing creative work in media
arts; and a record of teaching media arts production at the
postsecondary level. Candidates will be expected to teach our
introductory media arts production course, and to develop and teach
intermediary and advanced undergraduate courses in immersive
mediamaking (using mixed, augmented, and virtual reality
technologies), as well as in additional subjects that could include
360° photographic techniques, ambisonic audio design, interactive
installations, user interface and experience design, transmedia
storytelling, and video art. The successful candidate will also
take a leading role in the oversight and continued growth of our
Media Arts Lab. We enthusiastically welcome applications from

animators, media artists, and scholars. The Department of Film
& Media Arts is the largest unit the University of Utah’s
College of Fine Arts, with over 700 undergraduate and graduate
majors studying all aspects of film, animation, and media arts
production. The University of Utah has been classified by the

“highest research activity” in the nation, and is one of 65 members

Required qualifications
· M.F.A. or other terminal degree in media
arts, digital media, film, or a related field. ·
Evidence of successful college-level teaching. ·
Ability to teach introductory media arts production,
and to develop and teach intermediate and advanced undergraduate
courses in immersive and interactive media and other emerging media
formats. · An active record of creative work,
evidence of which may include professional credits and festival or
gallery exhibitions. · Interest in and evidence
of potential for securing external grants and funding.
