The Krieger School of Arts and Sciences is seeking a Multimedia Technician who will work under the supervision of the Multimedia Systems Manager and will be responsible for providing technical and operational support for the field of multimedia, audiovisual recording, editing, and distribution, digital media, and video conferencing. Being mentored by the Multimedia Specialist, this position will be responsible for set up, support, and operation of all classroom instructional technology equipment. This position will also provide support for A/V events on the Homewood Campus. This position may require working hours of 12pm to 8pm during weekdays. Occasional extended weekend hours will be required.

Specific Duties & Responsibilities:

Classroom Instructional Technology Support (35%)

  • Respond and resolve classroom technology related calls
  • Perform preventive maintenance on classroom equipment
  • Set up requested multimedia equipment for classes
  • Provide instructions to faculty, staff, students, and visiting lecturers on equipment operation in the classrooms.

Event AV Support (30%)

  • Deliver, set up, and operate A/V equipment for events on the Homewood campus
  • Properly check out and check in equipment
  • Meet with customers prior to the events to provide instructions and perform a test run.

Support Multimedia Equipment (20%)

  • Maintain, upgrade, repair, and install digital/analog audiovisual systems for all general pooled classrooms
  • Maintain, upgrade, repair, and install AV/Multimedia equipment for departmental and conference rooms by request
  • Keep track of multimedia equipment life cycle and replace when needed.

Multimedia Recordings and Video Editing (10%)

  • Set up and assist with Panopto lecture capture
  • Video and audio record events when requested. Process and deliver the recording and trouble shoot issues contacting vendors when needed.

Relationship Management (5%)

  • Work with faculty, staff, and students to understand their needs regarding technology in classrooms and relay those needs to the KIT-CATS team.

Minimum Qualifications (Mandatory):

    High School Diploma/GED. Four years related experience. Additional education may substitute for required experience, to the extent permitted by the JHU equivalency formula.

Preferred Qualifications:

  • Bachelor’s Degree in an audiovisual/multimedia or related field preferred.

Special Knowledge, Skills & Abilities:

  • Advanced knowledge of audiovisual and instructional equipment, digital media formats, and streaming media.
  • Knowledge of Microsoft Office, Panopto Lecture capture, Zoom Video Conferencing, Crestron, PC, MAC.
  • Knowledge of low and high voltage electrical systems (NEC).
  • Needs to be: Well organized, reliable, able to work as part of a team while also being a motivated self-starter, able to work independently.
  • Must pay attention to detail and have good customer service as well as a positive work ethic, ability to work occasional evening and weekend hours.

Technical Qualifications or Specialized Certifications:

  • CTS (Certified technology Specialist) certification is a plus.

Physical Requirements:

  • Must be able to lift up to 50 lbs,. and able to work at height to 20ft.

JHU Equivalency Formula:  30 undergraduate degree credits (semester hours) or 18 graduate degree credits may substitute for one year of experience.  Additional related experience may substitute for the required education on the same basis. For jobs where equivalency is permitted, up to two years of non-related college course work may be applied towards the total minimum education/experience required for the respective job.

Any vaccinations required for these diseases will be given at no cost in our Occupational Health office.
