The University of Rhode Island (URI) is seeking an Associate Vice Provost for the Office of the Advancement of Teaching and Learning (ATL) that includes the offices of Faculty Development, Student Learning Outcomes Assessment and Accreditations, Online Education, URI Online, and the Academic Testing Center. The successful candidate will articulate a visionary approach to evidence-based faculty development, assessment and online education and provide active leadership to advance the diversity, inclusion, and equity mission of URI. This position also provides oversight for key resources (personnel, budget, data) for ATL and therefore some administrative and supervisory experience in a Center for Teaching and Learning or similar complex unit in a higher education institution is required.

BASIC FUNCTION:
Provide innovative leadership for the Office for the Advancement of Teaching and Learning (ATL) to advance excellence, inclusion, and diversity in teaching, learning, and assessment in all modalities across the University. Provide a visionary approach to evidence-based faculty development, assessment, and online education. Connect ATL’s initiatives to the University’s strategic plan and institutional accreditation goals. Provide oversight for the key resources of ATL (personnel, budget, data). Act as the liaison between ATL and the Provost’s Office, College Deans and Associate Deans, and Informational Technology Services. The Directors, Associate Directors, or Assistant Directors of the offices of Faculty Development, Student Learning Outcomes Assessment and Accreditation, Online Education, URI Online, and the Academic Testing Center report directly to the Associate Vice Provost.

evidence of past experience of improving teaching and
learning.

in higher education, and we seek to hire candidates with a strong
track record of engagement with JEDI in their research,
teaching, and service. The JEDI statement (2 pages
maximum) along with your other application materials should address
your values and/or philosophy, accomplishments, experiences,
education, and training with JEDI. We highly encourage you to
integrate one or more of the following considerations into your
2-page statement, and to be as specific and concrete as possible in
any examples you provide.
- Your understanding/articulation of the role played by intersectional personal identities in developing and executing concrete JEDI actions and products.
- Past and future integration of JEDI aspects and issues into your teaching or leadership activities, and any impact of that JEDI inclusion on students, the institution, your discipline, and the larger community.
- Academic, professional, industry, and/or community service that contributes to building respectful and inclusive organizational climates, advances institutional recruitment of marginalized people, and raises awareness of JEDI issues.
- JEDI Frameworks and theories that you apply in your work to create awareness, understanding, and advancement of JEDI issues and goals on students, the institution, your discipline and the larger community.
