Position Summary:

The Department of Diagnostic Radiology and Nuclear Medicine at the University of Maryland School of Medicine is seeking a Technical Director for the University of Maryland Medical Intelligent Imaging (UM2II) Center, a new artificial intelligence (AI) research center. This position will be a faculty position at the Assistant Professor level (non-tenure track) in the Department of Radiology and Nuclear Medicine with a focus in AI applied to medical imaging applications.

The primary role of the successful candidate will be to co-lead an independent research program the clinical director focused on developing, implementing, and validating AI applications for medical imaging problems.

Principal Duties:

  1. Develop and implement an independent research program in machine learning and AI applicable for medical imaging. This includes execution of research, management of a research team, and applying for (and obtaining) extramural funding to support your research projects.
  2. Work with the Director of the UM2II Center Vice-Chair of Informatics to assess and address the AI technical needs and strategy of the UM2II Center and Department of Radiology with regards to AI.
  3. Serve as a local expert for colleagues in the Department of Radiology and Nuclear Medicine and the School of Medicine at large to advise, develop/implement AI applications for medical imaging.


Qualifications :

Requirements:

  1. PhD in computer science or related field from top academic program with thesis focused on AI applications for medical imaging.
  2. 2+ years of postdoctoral training in Medical Imaging
  3. Proficiency in a variety of machine learning libraries and frameworks, web frameworks, programming platforms, and programming languages.
  4. Expertise in machine learning applied to medical imaging and medical physics (including deep learning, radiomics, and natural language processing).
  5. Experience in successfully collaborating with clinicians in AI projects for radiologic applications, as evidenced by peer-reviewed publications and presentations.
  6. At least 10 peer-reviewed publications and 2 patents awarded/pending related to AI applications for medical imaging.
