About the Antoinette Westphal College of Media Arts & Design

The Drexel University Antoinette Westphal College of Media Arts & Design is dedicated to the education of students in the areas of design, media and the performing and visual arts. About the Program

The programs in Digital Media are available for students and professionals who are interested in exploring, researching and building advanced media design and production careers. The programs reflect the fast-paced, constantly evolving field in which art, technology and science intersect and are based on an innovative, interdisciplinary and project-oriented curriculum.

Job Summary

The adjunct faculty member will employ a variety of strategies to foster student artistic development, learning and discussions, as well as encourage active learning in all students, maintain proper course-related records, and evaluate student work and provide students with feedback as to the progress toward meeting the objectives of the course. Each adjunct faculty member is responsible for effectively teaching students in the assigned classroom or remote settings. Each adjunct faculty member is responsible for effectively implementing the mission of the Department of Digital Media within Drexel’s Westphal College of Media Arts & Design. Responsibilities may include teaching days, evenings, nights, and weekends, with the potential for online only, in-person only, or a combination of both.

Adjunct positions available for freshman, junior and senior level digital media courses covering topics in the history, theory, practice, ethics, trends and likely future paths in the design production, use and social implications of living in media. Candidates for the positions will be well versed in the history and development of media, have a critical understanding of practices and social uses with an eye toward future possibilities. Preferred candidates will have one year teaching experience, a Ph.D. or be ABD in Digital Media or related fields of culture and communication, history of technology especially relating to media and design.

Essential Functions
  • Teach required number of credit hours per quarter based on contract
  • Teach studio, lecture, and/or practicum courses per contract
  • Plan and provide instructional experiences that reflect an understanding of the philosophy, objectives, and curriculum of the program
  • Evaluate student achievement of curricular objectives/outcomes
  • Maintain communication with the program director regarding any course or student issues
  • Perform other similar duties as assigned
Required Qualifications
  • Graduate Degree in Digital Media or related fields of culture and communication, history of technology especially relating to media and design.
  • One year of teaching or professional experience. (suggested)
