The primary responsibility of the Cloud Systems Analyst is to support, implement, administer and maintain a portfolio of Bucknell software applications, running in the Cloud, on-premise, or in a SaaS environment. These applications support the various needs and functions of University users, departments, and colleges. Maintenance includes understanding user needs and expectations, monitoring, troubleshooting, fixing issues that arise, contacting and escalating to software vendors and/or other internal technical resources as deemed appropriate. The Cloud Systems Analyst will perform access and security control for assigned systems. Responsibilities also include planning, coordinating, and executing on enhancements and upgrades as and when needed.

The Cloud Systems Analyst is a member of the Systems and Operations team and will work collaboratively with other Systems Analysts and Systems Engineers on the team, as well as others within Enterprise Technologies and L&IT. The Systems and Operations team reports to the Associate Director of Enterprise Technologies Systems and Operations.

Job Duties:
  • Serve as a technical expert on a team supporting University-hosted and cloud-based applications, systems, and storage solutions.
  • Provide expertise on cloud service platforms including but not limited to AWS.
  • Apply technical knowledge to be a resource for all areas of the University community on implementation of applications, solutions, and security tools.
  • Follow best practices toward the installation, implementation, maintenance, and support of software.
  • Coordinate with other Systems Analysts, Systems Engineers, Database Administrators, Software Engineers, Information Security, and other IT staff to troubleshoot system related problems and complete projects.
  • Manage the security access setup of systems and applications, and coordinate with the Information Security team regarding incidents and audits. Respond to requests to address auditor recommendations and comply with set standards and goals.
  • Monitor applications and take corrective action to prevent or minimize system downtime.
  • Coordinate enhancements and upgrades to the applications with users, other L&IT staff, and vendors as needed to meet the institution's needs.
  • Test and evaluate vendor patches and new releases, following change-control and vendor-recommended best practices and procedures related systems.
  • Partner with functional areas through evaluation and testing of vendor patches and new releases, following change-control and vendor-recommended best practices and procedures.
  • Function as a technical contact with hardware and software vendors as appropriate.
  • Document FAQs, update Knowledge Base articles, create Standard Operating Procedure (SOP) instructions, create user documentation and train personnel on new applications.
  • Perform testing, validation, monitoring and backups.
  • Convert users' functional requirements into technical requirements, and workable, supportable solutions that meet the users' needs.
  • Coordinate data security, data integrity, and data backup of the University's central computer and communication resources.
  • Assist in the planning, design, and development of projects that enhance and develop areas of computing support including computing facilities, hardware and software resources, and policies and procedures.
  • Assist in the design, installation, implementation, documentation, and maintenance of the College's backup and disaster recovery processes.
  • Appropriately utilize the University's project and ticketing system.
  • Stay abreast of emerging products and technologies and maintain skills through formal and informal training, networking, and event attendance.
  • Manage projects throughout the lifecycle, coordinate resources, manage communications, work with vendors, and provide technical support where needed.
  • Comply with university computing and data security standards.
  • Maintain, respect, and protect the confidentiality of information held within or transferred across the University's computer and communication resources in any format.
  • Follow all University policies and procedures and assist in ensuring the compliance to said policies, especially as they relate to security and technology.
  • Perform other related duties as assigned.

Minimum Qualifications:
  • Bachelor's degree and three years of experience in a systems operations focused role OR a minimum of seven years of combined experience and education.
  • Demonstrated technical expertise in leveraging cloud concepts.
  • Experience optimizing best practices for application and system design and administration.
  • Demonstrated experience with one or more the following: AWS, Google Cloud Platform, VMWare, Azure, Cloud Essentials, or equivalent cloud platform.
  • Knowledge of relational databases and SQL reporting tools
  • Familiarity with networking concepts (TCP/IP, DNS, DHCP, VPN)

Preferred Qualifications:
  • Relevant certifications in cloud and/or on-premise computing technologies
  • Hands-on technical experience in the cloud administration
  • Proven technical methods in solving cloud issues involving IT environments
  • Working knowledge or proficiency in application programming languages
  • Experience with Windows and/or Unix/Linux operating systems and related scripting languages
  • Experience in troubleshooting enterprise level applications and operating systems
  • Ability to develop, test, evaluate, and maintain multi-tiered production environments on and off premise
  • Familiarity with the best security practices and standards such as NIST 800-171, 800-53, PCI DSS, FERPA, GLBA, HIPAA, etc.
  • Database administration experience (Oracle, SQL Server, MongoDB, Aurora, etc.)
  • Understanding of networking systems across on-premise, cloud, or SaaS environments
  • Familiarity with the academic and business processes of higher education and the interrelationships between departments, data, and systems
