Under the direction of the Assistant Vice President of Instruction, plan, coordinate, and implement job development services to aid student applicants in preparing for and obtaining employment, and to recruit students, faculty, and employers to participate in the Work Experience program. Oversee marketing of the Work Experience/Internship programs. Oversee reporting, including data collection and validation as required by the California Community College Chancellor's Office (CCCCO), including troubleshooting problems. Employees in this classification receive limited supervision within a framework of standard policies and procedures. This job class performs a variety of job placement functions in support of Employment Development programs and objectives.

    ONLINE INSTRUCTION
    Although, during the COVID-19 pandemic, College of Marin is providing instruction almost exclusively remotely, once normal operations resume all faculty members must be available to provide instruction in the classroom and in person. Please note that the College does not offer online-only teaching assignments.

    Essential Functions
    ESSENTIAL FUNCTIONS

  • Provides academic, career-oriented, and personal counseling to persons seeking services from the Work Experience program.
  • Provides instruction and develops curriculum to support students with academic services and career exploration.
  • Plans and coordinates job development, referral, and advising program.
  • Initiates, plans, organizes, presents and hosts recruiting events, professional learning workshops, and career/work events for staff, faculty and community.
  • Develops and implements marketing strategies and materials, conducts outreach, and recruits students, faculty, and employers to promote the Work Experience program.
  • Collaborates with job placement coordinators to identify employers interested in cooperative
  • education experiences for their employees.
  • Collaborates with students to develop measurable learning objectives.
  • Advises, assists and evaluates student performance and learning outcomes.
  • Assesses student workplace readiness and potential placements.
  • Discusses and models positive work skills and habits.
  • Interviews applicants and places referrals.
  • Maintains and submits accurate student records in a timely manner as required.
  • Consult with students and industry professionals during regularly scheduled office and
  • workplace site visits
  • Participates in program activities, including program planning, new teaching and learning methods, and resource development.
  • Collects and evaluates program data, prepares summary reports on Work Experience student participation.
  • Maintains accurate records on student achievement, attendance, and on-the-job performance.
  • Contributes to development of program policies and procedures.
  • Participates in college professional or participatory governance committees and in departmental activities such as student equity efforts, student learning outcomes assessment, curricular redesign and development, intervention and crisis support teams, recruitment, orientation activities, etc.
  • Maintains currency and depth of knowledge in assigned area of responsibility.
  • Maintains appropriate standards of professional conduct and ethics.

    REQUIREMENTS
    Per the California Code of Regulations, Title 5, Section 43416: The minimum qualifications shall be the minimum qualifications for the discipline in which work experience may be provided at the College where the instructor is employed.

    Work Experience services at College of Marin are currently offered in the disciplines listed below. For all disciplines, applicants must possess a demonstrated sensitivity to and an understanding of the diverse academic, socioeconomic, cultural, disability and ethnic backgrounds of community college students and the campus community. In addition, applicants must meet the requirements shown, depending on the discipline for which they would be servicing.

    Applicants who do not specifically meet the stated requirements may request equivalency based upon an assertion of “Degree Equivalence” and/or “Professional Achievement Equivalence” in the Agency Questions section of the employment application. Equivalency applicants must submit supporting evidence (as an attachment to their application) to justify their assertion in order to be considered. Applicants who are requesting equivalency are responsible for documenting all course work, degree programs and related professional experience at the time of application.

  • ADDITIONAL REQUIREMENTS for:
    In addition to the requirements listed above, the following disciplines require:

    Automotive Collision Repair Technology: A.) ASE Certification in the subject being taught; and B.) A valid CA driver's license.
    Automotive Technology: A.) Certification as a Bureau of Automotive Repair Instructor; and B.) ASE Certified Master Automotive Technician with L1.
    Dental Assisting (Clinical Instruction Only): A.) Current, valid certification as a Certified Dental Assistant (CDA; issued by the Dental Assisting National Board); B.) Current, valid licensure as a Registered Dental Assistant (RDA; issued by the Dental Board of CA); and C.) Current certification in all of the following: CPR/BLS, Dental X-Ray, Coronal Polish, and Pit & Fissure Sealants.
    Dental Assisting (Lecture/Theory & Clinical Instruction): Same as Dental Assisting (Clinical Instruction Only) above plus instruction in and knowledge of educational theory and methodology** (e.g., curriculum development, educational psychology, test construction, measurement and evaluation).
    Fire Technology/EMT (EMT & Advanced First Aid/First Responder Only): A.) Current, valid licensure in CA as a physician, registered nurse, physician assistant, or paramedic OR current, valid certification in CA as an Advanced EMT or EMT; B.) At least 40 hours of documented instruction in teaching methodology; and C.) At least two (2) years of academic or clinical experience in the practice of emergency medicine for pre-hospital care in the last five (5) years.
    Fire Technology/EMT (EMT, Advanced First Aid/Responder & Fire Technology): Current, valid certification as a CA State Fire Training (SFT) Instructor in the subject that will be taught.

    REQUIREMENTS for:

    Business / Business Administration: 1.) A Master's degree in Business, Business Management, Business Administration, Accountancy, Finance, Marketing, or Business Education; or 2.) A Bachelor's degree in any of the above AND a Master's in Economics, Personnel Management, Public Administration or a JD or LL.B. degree; or 3.) A Bachelor's degree in Economics with a business emphasis AND a Master's in Personnel Management, Public Administration or a JD or LL.B. degree; or 4.) The equivalent; and 5.) Demonstrated sensitivity to and an understanding of the diverse academic, socioeconomic, cultural, disability and ethnic backgrounds of community college students and the campus community.
    Computer Science

    Counseling: 1.) A Master's degree in Counseling or Rehabilitation Counseling, Clinical Psychology, Counseling Psychology, Guidance Counseling, Educational Counseling, Social Work, Career Development, Marriage and Family Therapy, or Marriage, Family and Child Counseling; or 2.) A Bachelor's degree in any of the above AND a valid California license as a Marriage, Family and Child Therapist; or 3.) The equivalent; and 4.) Demonstrated sensitivity to and an understanding of the diverse academic, socioeconomic, cultural, disability and ethnic backgrounds of community college students and the campus community.

    Early Childhood Education (ECE): 1.) A Master's degree in Child Development, Early Childhood Education, Human Development, Home Economics/Family and Consumer Studies with a specialization in Child Development/Early Childhood Education, or Educational Psychology with a specialization in Child Development/Early Childhood Education; or 2.) A Bachelor's degree in any of the above AND a Master's degree in Social Work, Educational Supervision, Elementary Education, Special Education, Psychology, Bilingual/Bicultural Education, Life Management/Home Economics, Family Life Studies, or Family and Consumer Studies; or 3.) The equivalent; and 4.) Demonstrated sensitivity to and an understanding of the diverse academic, socioeconomic, cultural, disability and ethnic backgrounds of community college students and the campus community.

    Education: 1.) A Master's degree in Education; or 2.) The equivalent; and 3.) Demonstrated sensitivity to and an understanding of the diverse academic, socioeconomic, cultural, disability and ethnic backgrounds of community college students and the campus community.

    DESIRABLE QUALIFICATIONS
    At least two (2) years of experience teaching cooperative education or a related discipline at the secondary or post-secondary level and/or job placement occupational experience.

  • Knowledge of and skill in use of computer technologies for educational purposes, including computer-based learning;
  • Evidence of commitment to professional growth and service which may include, but is not limited to presenting workshops, attending conferences or training, development of curriculum and instructional materials, membership in school/college committees or production of classroom-based research, membership in professional organizations.

  • CONDITIONS OF EMPLOYMENT
    Prior to employment, the selected candidate will be required to complete the following:

  • COVID-19 Vaccination Status: All employees new to the District who access campuses or other District facilities, and/or participate in off-site work in-person for the District, must be fully vaccinated against COVID-19, prior to employment unless approved as exempt due to verified medical or religious reasons (as defined in federal or state laws and regulations).
  • California Education Code, Section 87408.6 requires persons employed by a community college in an academic or classified position to submit to a TB risk assessment developed by CDPH and CTCA and, if risk factors are present, an examination to determine that he or she is free of infectious TB; initially upon hire and every four years thereafter.
  • Certificated candidates who have not previously been employed in an academic position in California will be required to provide a medical certificate from a licensed physician showing that the candidate is free from any communicable disease unfitting the candidate to instruct or associate with students. The medical exam shall have been conducted not more than six months before submission of the certificate and shall be at the expense of the candidate. (Ed. Code Section 87408.6)
  • DISASTER SERVICE WORKERS: All Marin Community College District (MCCD) employees are designated Disaster Service Workers through state and local law (California Government Code Section 3100-3109). Employment with the MCCD requires the affirmation of a loyalty oath to this effect. Employees are required to complete all Disaster Service Worker-related training as assigned, and to return to work as ordered in the event of an emergency.     Supplemental & Salary Information
    WORKING ENVIRONMENT
    Office, classroom, lab and/or on-line environment. Position requires ability to communicate and exchange information. The assignment may include day, weekend, and/or evening assignments on campus and/or at off campus locations. Traveling between the college and community work sites and meetings is required.

    BARGAINING UNIT & RETIREMENT PLAN
    UPM - Full-time Faculty:
    Employees in this position classification are represented by the United Professors of Marin (UPM/AFT 1610). Faculty members are required to comply fully with the United Professors of Marin Collective Bargaining Agreement, including payment of union dues or charitable contributions. General information regarding rights and responsibilities under the Agreement can be found in the Collective Bargaining Agreements section of our Human Resources site. Full-time UPM employees are also members of the California State Teachers' Retirement System (CalSTRS).

    SALARY INFORMATION
    FLSA Status: Exempt
    Salary Range: $64,497 - 112,579 annually.

    Please refer to our Human Resources web site for salary schedules. Step 14 is the highest entering step for permanent teachers new to the District. Salary placement is non-negotiable and is dependent upon verified background and experience.
