The University of Virginia School of Education and Human Development (SEHD) seeks an athletic training educator at the rank of assistant professor (non-tenure eligible) whose expertise will advance the Department of Kinesiology’s Masters of Science in Athletic Training (MSAT) program. The successful candidate will demonstrate evidence of clinical experience as an athletic trainer and college-level instructor and expertise in specific domains of athletic training. We expect that the successful candidate will be an excellent instructor and student advisor who works collaboratively with the MSAT program director and Kinesiology faculty to provide exceptional educational experiences for students. This is a 9-month, salaried, non-tenure eligible position. Summer teaching opportunities may be available.
The incumbent will primarily teach in person and, potentially, online graduate courses with an emphasis in Athletic Training; may teach undergraduate Kinesiology courses in their area of specialization; will serve as faculty advisor for MSAT students and undergraduate Kinesiology majors; will work collaboratively with colleagues, both within and outside the School of Education & Human Development, to accomplish duties as a faculty member; contribute to institutional service activities at the program, department, school, and/or university level as assigned and to professional service activities; and will attend MSAT Program, Kinesiology Department, and School of Education & Human Development faculty meetings. Load is set annually between the department chair and faculty member consistent with the School’s Load Planning policy.
Required Qualifications:
- Doctoral degree in Athletic Training or closely related discipline (PhD, EdD, DAT, DPT, or equivalent) by the start date of the position
- BOC-certified as an ATC for at least 5 years
- Currently licensed or eligible for licensure as an Athletic Trainer in the Commonwealth of Virginia
- Prior college teaching experience
- Ability to implement a variety of pedagogical techniques appropriate for academically diverse learners
- Explicit evidence of commitment to diversity and of advancing understanding and outcomes for underrepresented groups
Preferred Qualifications:
- Experience teaching Athletic Training courses related to Psychosocial Aspects of Injury, Medical Aspects of Athletic Training, Emergency Care, and/or Administration Strategies in Athletic Training
- At least 5 years of clinical practice experience as an Athletic Trainer
- Proven record of collaboration with diverse groups of students and faculty
- Previous teaching experience in a CAATE accredited athletic training program
- Knowledge in the use of simulation for assessment and teaching
- Prior experience with assessment of educational, clinical, and programmatic outcomes
- Ability to use technology in innovative ways to enhance instruction and to teach online
