Job Summary and Responsibilities
The Department of Biology at The University of Texas at Tyler is seeking a 9-month, tenure-track position in Genetics. We are looking for a biologist with research experience and interest in genetics. The candidate should be able to teach genetics and the companion laboratory course for Biology majors, as well as graduate courses in their area of expertise as part of a thesis and non-thesis MS program. They will be required to establish a strong, extramurally funded research program in their area of expertise. They are also expected to have a strong commitment to undergraduate and graduate education and mentoring. Participation in departmental, college, and university committees and outreach programs is expected. Preference will be given to candidates with a demonstrated record of collaborative research.

- Ph.D. in genetics or related field.
- Postdoctoral experience

- Evidence of effective teaching and other communication skills.
- Teaching experience at undergraduate or graduate levels

The Department of Biology offers a stimulating intellectual environment and has an excellent reputation in research and teaching. The Department consists of eleven tenured and tenure-track faculty members and five lecturers. Research in the Department is in diverse sub-disciplines, including genomics, population genetics, evolution, ecology, neurobiology, microbiology, molecular biology, and physiology. Research seminars by invited speakers are held weekly. Pedagogical infrastructure includes the UT Tyler Center for Excellence in Teaching and Learning and the UT Tyler Academy of Distinguished Teachers. The department boasts individual research space for all faculty and shared molecular biology and ecology research equipment. This includes three environmentally regulated walk-in growth chambers. Additional Information
The retirement plan for this position is Teacher Retirement System of Texas (TRS), subject to the position being at least 20 hours per week and at least 135 days in length. This position has the option to elect the Optional Retirement Program (ORP) instead of TRS, subject to the position being 40 hours per week and at least 135 days in length.
This position is security-sensitive and subject to Texas Education Code Section 51.215 which authorizes employer to obtain criminal history record information. The position is subject to availability of funding.
