Assistant Professor of English

The Ohio State University Agricultural Technical Institute (Ohio State ATI) is committed to enhancing diversity and inclusion in our professions. Our aim is to recruit, support, and retain a scholar that will be an Assistant Professor and the Area Coordinator for the English/Writing Program at Ohio State ATI.  The tenure-track Assistant Professor will teach entry-level and, possibly, second-year writing courses, oversee English placement testing, and promote writing across the curriculum. As English Area Coordinator, this person will collaborate with the Department of English within the university at large to ensure consistency of instruction and curriculum. Additionally, the coordinator will be responsible for curriculum development, assessment, and syllabi development as well as coordinate the English curriculum and course delivery with associated faculty within the program area at Ohio State ATI. The individual will also assist the division chair with selecting associated faculty, evaluating associated faculty, and scheduling classes. We are particularly interested in applications from individuals with diverse life experiences and whose scholarship is thematically focused and validated by peers.

 

Required Qualifications

  • Master’s degree or greater in English or a related discipline
  • Evidence of potential for excellence in teaching
  • Excellent verbal and written communication skills and a willingness and ability to work closely with diverse groups of academic (e.g., students, staff, faculty) audiences
  • Interest in and/or experience with teaching, recruiting, mentoring, and advising diverse underserved students, including women, students of color, first generation, and non-traditional students

 

Preferred Qualifications

  • Previous experience teaching, recruiting, mentoring, and advising diverse underserved students, including women, students of color, first generation, and non-traditional students
  • Demonstrated ability in curriculum coordination and assessment
  • Demonstrated leadership of peers in an academic setting
  • Evidence of experience with practical writing relevant to ATI majors (e.g., business plans, grants, factsheets, university extension bulletins, technical writing, scientific reports, trade magazine articles, press releases, ad copy, etc.)
  • Scholarship validated by peers
