Job Description



PURPOSE AND SCOPE:

The Grounds Supervisor is responsible for overseeing all the maintenance of the grounds, landscaping, parking lots, tennis courts, exercise trail, ponds, and sports fields of the Campus. This includes pest control, irrigation control/maintenance, equipment repairs/purchases, landscaping maintenance/purchases, and employee assignments/supervision.



ESSENTIAL JOB FUNCTIONS:

  1. Manage daily landscape, irrigation, and grounds operations across LSC’s campuses.
  2. Assign daily job duties to crew and supervise/train the employees.
  3. Initiate and manage new installation, water features, and special projects.
  4. Perform equipment maintenance/repairs.
  5. Manage purchasing of supplies or parts for equipment and maintain budget for area.
  6. Perform Irrigation controls/repairs.
  7. Coordinate and manage service contractors.
  8. Coordinate preventive maintenance and repairs.
  9. Perform the fertilizing of landscape, lawn, and sports fields.
  10. Oversee grounds repairs of benches, signs, curb stops, tables, trash cans, etc.
  11. Maintain records of all water usage and chemicals used.




KNOWLEDGE, SKILLS, AND ABILITIES:
  • Experience in grounds maintenance, at least two years.
  • Ability to communicate orally and in writing.
  • Ability to supervise and knowledge of employment policies and laws.
  • Must be able to delegate assignments and schedule work of subordinates.
  • Knowledge of sprinkler systems, equipment repair and maintenance, horticulture, and insecticides/herbicides.
  • Must understand and be able to transfer knowledge of safety operations of power equipment and tools and safety standards for dispensing insecticides and herbicides
  • Knowledge of grounds keeping equipment experience helpful.
  • Ability to work from a general outside of duties and responsibilities.
  • Ability to work in a safe and secure work environment that may periodically have unpredicted requirements or demands.
  • Skill and ability to work in a responsive environment where co-workers or other individuals bring problems for incumbent to resolve.
  • Ability to be held responsible for inventory.
  • Ability to make recommendations that impact the budget.
  • Ability to manage the budget within the assigned division.


PHYSICAL ABILITIES:

The work requires some physical exertion, such as long periods of standing; walking over rough, uneven, or rocky surfaces; recurring bending, crouching, stooping, stretching, reaching, or similar activities; or recurring lifting of moderately heavy items, such as typewriters and record boxes. The work may require specific, but common, physical characteristics and abilities, such as above average agility and dexterity.



WORK SCHEDULE AND CONDITIONS:

The work involves regular exposure to outdoor elements, and/or regular exposure to hazardous items such as chemicals, toxic or caustic materials, contamination, and electrical hazards. This exposure requires special safety precautions, e.g., working around moving parts, carts, or machines; exposure to contagious diseases or irritant chemicals. Employees may be required to use protective clothing or gear, such as masks, gowns, coats, boots, goggles, gloves, or shields.



REQUIRED QUALIFICATIONS:
  • High School diploma or GED and at least 3 years of related work experience, or an equivalent combination of education and experience
Salary

Hiring salary range is $43,070 - $49,531

Lone Star College provides a hiring salary range for all posted full-time non-faculty positions. Where your salary offer would fall in that range is determined by your related experience and education. Should you receive an offer of employment from Lone Star College, the resume submitted in the application process will be utilized to calculate your salary offer.
