Job Description:

GENERAL STATEMENT OF RESPONSIBILITIES:

The Student Wellness Office provides behavioral health support for Cape Cod Community College students experiencing mental health challenges, crisis and emergencies. We know that students may experience a variety of challenges during their college career. The Student Wellness office is a central location that provides coordinated efforts along with campus partners and the community to assist students with overcoming challenges to be successful in their educational journey. The Wellness Counselor will provide confidential evidence-based mental health counseling, consultation, crisis intervention, and debriefing services that promote the well-being of Cape Cod Community College students. Working collaboratively with the faculty and staff and other well-being services in a holistic manner, the Wellness Counselor is committed to diversity, equity and inclusion across all areas of work.

EXAMPLES OF DUTIES:

  1. Uses an equity-minded and culturally responsive lens to provide individual and group psychological counseling to enhance personal, professional, and educational development of students.
  2. Provides solutions-focused, short-term brief counseling, crisis intervention and wellness support to a caseload of students.
  3. Administers and interprets screening and assessment to support early intervention including psychological tests, mental health screenings, and other assessment instruments to assess psychological needs of students. Prepares summaries and annual reports of aggregate data.
  4. Assesses individual student intakes and screenings for a diverse range of behavioral health issues. Records all student interactions and provides wellness and safety planning as necessary.
  5. Develops treatment plans including formalized written documentation with clinical care needs, symptoms, diagnosis, and strategies and goals for treatment.
  6. Coordinates, consults, and integrates with primary care, specialty health care, and social service providers when necessary to support student wellness.
  7. Responds to reports of student mental health issues, working with students to find resources that will help them persist and complete coursework.
  8. Assists with behavioral health awareness and/or substance abuse prevention efforts for the campus community. Facilitates educational trainings that empower students and staff.
  9. Provides assistance in managing crises and responding to campus trauma.
  10. Consults with mental health practitioners and providers regarding student needs and makes referrals to outside providers/agencies for specific counseling or social service needs.
  11. Collaborates with the JED Campus team to meet programmatic goals and supports outreach efforts. Serves on assigned sub-committees.
  12. Assists director with professional development opportunities for faculty, staff, and students as it pertains to behavioral health.
  13. Serves on the College's student Behavioral Intervention Team, Crisis and Life Management (CALM). Responds to student crises on-campus to de-escalate the situation and help develop appropriate resolution.
  14. Maintains and promotes the highest ethical and professional standards and works collaboratively with departments across campus to address coordinated student support while adhering to federal, local, and state guidelines.
  15. Others duties as assigned by Director.



Requirements:

MINIMUM QUALIFICATIONS:

  1. Master's degree in clinical psychology, counseling psychology, social work, or closely related field plus at least 6 years of experience that includes psychological counseling, psycho-therapy services, crisis intervention, social work, and de-escalation or an equivalent combination of education, training, and experience.
  2. Independent license (or license-eligible to be obtained within 6 months of hire) in the state of Massachusetts for Social Work or Mental Health Clinician.
  3. Demonstrated knowledge of case management systems and experience with referrals, documentation, and active follow-up.
  4. Excellent interpersonal skills, including both oral and written communications.
  5. Understanding of and sensitivity to meeting the needs of the diverse academic, socio-economic, cultural, disability, and ethnic backgrounds of the student population.


ADDITIONAL PREFERRED QUALIFICATIONS:

  1. Knowledge of student development theory and problems/issues typically encountered by college students.
  2. Knowledge of mental health and wellness issues in college student population.
  3. Knowledge of assessment, risk management, and violence prevention strategies and approaches and their application in a college setting.
  4. Knowledge of Title IX.
  5. Demonstrated data and records management skills.
  6. Experience working with distressed individuals within a higher education or community setting.

Additional Information:

COMPENSATION : Full-time, 9 month (September - May) MCCC/MTA Unit Position, Sr. Academic Counselor (Grade 6) with annual salary range of $64,615 - $84,909. Actual salary will be consistent with the MCCC/MTA Collective Bargaining Agreement, commensurate with qualifications and experience. Includes participation in a comprehensive employee benefits program.
