Assistant/Associate Professor of Construction Management

 

Job Summary

The School of Construction Management Technology (SCMT) at Purdue University has two openings for tenure track Assistant/Associate Professor faculty positions beginning in August 2022. A successful candidate will demonstrate exceptional potential to teach at the undergraduate and graduate levels, establish a substantial externally-funded research program, maintain active scholarship, and promote the Construction Management program through engagement.

 

Essential qualifications:

  1. An earned Ph.D. in Construction Management or a discipline closely related to the construction industry.
  2. Knowledge and skill to develop curriculum and teach a broad range of construction management topics, which shall be explained by applicant in the statement of teaching interests and philosophy.
  3. Ability to develop applied research projects and obtain external research grant funding, which shall be explained by applicant in the statement of research interests.
  4. Record of scholarly publication.
  5. A strong sense of teamwork and adaptability to mutually support other faculty, especially when team-teaching a course.
  6. Excellent written and oral English communication skills.

 

SCMT Needs

SCMT seeks expanded faculty teaching and applied research capabilities in architecture, heavy-civil, industrial, and facilities management. SCMT emphasizes teaching and discovery that reinforce professional architecture-engineering-construction (AEC) industrial practice. A large majority of SCMT graduates gain employment in the U.S. construction industry. Many current SCMT faculty members have substantial AEC experience.

Purdue University is an R1 university with more than 40,000 students. Purdue was recently ranked 9th among public institutions by the Wall Street Journal and 5th among the most innovative universities by the U.S. News & World Report. The main campus is about 65-miles (105-km) northwest of Indianapolis and 103-miles (166-km) southeast of Chicago. The campus and surrounding communities provide a variety of entertainment and dining options.

 

The School of Construction Management Technology has delivered construction higher education excellence for more than half a century. With more than 20 faculty members, as well as about 500 undergraduate and 100 graduate students, the School has a vibrant teaching and applied research culture. In addition to a degree in Construction Management Technology, which is accredited by the American Council for Construction Education, the school offers an innovative degree in Design and Construction Integration, which combines construction expertise with design appreciation, preparing the students for collaborative AEC industry professional experiences. The School offers an MS in Construction Management Technology, and a Ph.D. in Technology is offered by the Purdue Polytechnic Institute.
